J E S Fork Fangs

Anybody using these - - if so, do they work in eliminating wind buffeting? Thanks,

I have them and they do help with wind buffeting. Some people take them off in the summer because they feel that they block some wind from hitting the engine and could make it run hotter. A week ago or so I made a couple of runs, one with them on and then one with them off and I only saw a 4 or 5 degree cooler engine temp with them off so I am probably going to put mine back on now. Everyone should make their own choice about running them in the summer.

YES! The JES fangs made a world of difference in reducing the wind buffeting I was experiencing on my 17 Freewheeler. I'm 6' 1" tall and do a lot of long highway riding and I can now do 70-80 without any wind fatigue. My shirt sleeves don't blow up to my shoulders and my ear plugs don't blow out (1/2 helmet) I tried the tank lift and wing deflectors from DK customs without the fangs and noticed some improvement but not where I needed it the most on my face and shoulders.

Jamie (DK customs) is correct about the fangs raising the engine temps. I did quite a bit of testing and saw an average of 15 degree higher front head temp and engine temp (ET), and oil about 8 degrees higher with the fangs. I took the fangs back off and the temp went down, but I just didn't enjoy the ride with wind buffeting ... really spoiled now.

Since I live in Dallas, engine temp is important to me (more about performance than engine wear to me). I have added a 6 tube jag oil cooler. which is keeping my oil temp below 220 (at 70 mph) even when riding in 100 degree weather (around 200 in 70 degree weather). I'm also going to install some love jugs. I lot of folks think these are only for idling but DK testing shows otherwise, plus my fangs are preventing some air that I would normally have without them so the love jogs might even be more effective for those using fangs.

Comfort, looks, performance ... hard to get all three.

I installed the DK cooling wings and didn't notice much of a difference. I left them installed and also put on the JES product. What a huge difference. Hardly any buffeting at all and not much more noticeable heat. The DK wings will still deflect quite a bit of air to the engine that comes over the front fender and also what comes between the bottom of the windshield and turn signals. I am also running with the DK tank lift. The trike is stock at this time, but I will go stage one soon. A richer running engine will also lower the temps some.

I know this is a 3 month old thread but does anyone else make a chrome fork fang? I have tried contacting JES by email but not had any response. Or if anybody knows if there is a HD product from another model that can be modified to fit the Freewheeler, thanks in advance for any help

I saw a thread on hdforums where a guy used the road king ones. He ground out clearance for the turn signals with a dremel.

Thanks, I noticed one of the UK HD dealers have the Road King fangs at £100 ($130) so may be a good option to try and modify them

Call JES 585-737-7271.

Thanks for the information, much appreciated but I think I will look at the RK option first. Dont know the cost from JES, I may be way off but $200 ??? postage to UK could be $70- $100, then 20% VAT and 2.5 % customs, Could easily be $350- $380 by the time I get them

A quick update on the fork fangs. I have got round to sorting out the buffetting on my Freewheeler. I borrowed a windshield a couple of months back and had quite a bit of buffeting so made some basic fork fangs from 9mm plastic just to see if they were likely to work and they made a big difference, bearing in mind there was no science behind these, the results were good. I have given the windshield back and taken delivery of a front fairing so I need a permanent soloution to the fork fangs. Had decided to buy some HD Road King fangs and try to make them fit but decided to speak to JES first (thanks LadyonaMission).

Really nice guy and really helpful too. The chrome option is not available until end Dec but there is an option to buy an untreated set of fangs and then get them painted or chromed at this end which suits me just fine. The untreated set comes in at just $86 and the shipping cost was really good compared to other things I have had shipped from the USA. So for about $140 to my door it is a great option, even with the import charges and our dreaded 20% VAT its still only $170 :clapping::clapping:a very happy bunny, just placed the order.

Yes I could, had it off a couple of days ago to put the wire mesh in the front of it. It seems to always be covered in crap from the front wheel so not sure how the paint would hold up long term. Anyone else painted it and could comment on how the paint is looking after a few months of riding ?

Mine has been painted for 3 years and still looks good;)
