Hello all, I'm New here and to triking. I recently bought a 2004 Harley Roadking with a Roadsmith trike conversion. The reverse motor tries to move but when I look underneath and push the button it looks like the gear motor that works it might be skipping teeth Inside the gear box. Has anyone had any experience with these reverse motors and how much they Cost to replace ?

Randall..Welcome to Trike Talk...👍👍

If your motor is like the Tri Glides You can get a rebuilt kit 30 to about 50 dollars A new motor costs around 1500+dollars..Without labor ..

Welcome to Trike talk, look here is this your reverse set up? If it is my guess is a good electric motor shop should be able to rebuild it for you. Good Luck and check back in

I would call Roadsmith, as they probably installed the reverse when they did the conversion. Doubt it's like the Triglide electric reverse, but I've been wrong before.

So it turns out that the motor gearbox shaft keyway is broken out along with the belt sprocket being ruined. I called Roadsmith and they no longer using that motor or sprocket but are using a new reverse kit that cost $850.00 .

Reverse problems.

I have a 2008 Roadsmith Trike. The reverse went in mine too. I can hear the electric motor spin, but the gear does nothing. Mine is a Verticle mounted motor, and then it goes into a 90 degree gear box. Begining of April I contacted Roadsmith and they thing the gears inside the gear box "exploded" was their term. So I asked about a new gearbox and they said you have to buy a new motor and modify it to their new Horizontal style. Said it would be around $850.

Screw that, for another $200 or so I will go with a MMD mechanical reverse for $1099. Of course mine has the 6 speed transmission, not the 5 that makes it a little more expensive. But this seems like a pretty rugged set up, not quite as rugged as the Baker reverse, but still much better in my mind than a electric motor. Best of all the install videos look pretty straight forward. WWW.erouwingusa.com or they are on Ebay as well. Now I just have to remove all the stock reverse stuff, but I think I can do that over the winter.

Bill welcome to Trike-Talk....:clapping:.....Once you install the mechanical reverse you'll never regret it....Electric reverse's are a joke....Thats why they call them an ''Assist'' Reverse...
