2015 tri glide

New to me tri glide. 8400 miles, previous owner had reverse motor issues, at 1K miles, reverse motor replaced, at 6K miles, had reverse motor repaired. now I have it, put on 3K more miles. Reverse motor fell out and dangling by the cables. Should this be on my dime? Your opinions please.

That is a real tough question

IMO, I cannot see any reason the mounting bolts holding the motor could both fall out with out it making some noises prior. Who ever did the last install did not check the mating surfaces before reinstalling it or did not torque the bolts ?

Who did the replacement.....??...If it was the previous owner lots of luck...If it was a Harley dealer and it was replaced by them with a Harley motor and you have the receipts you might have a chance....??...

Problem solved. Savannah HD will replace at no cost to me.
 
agree with above but also i suggest maybe time to put a mechanical reverse in. i put one on my 13 and really like it.

Reading about all the issues with the original reverse, well mine is now also out of commission, no life , checked fuse, the " R" illuminates but no action when I push it to reverse, so since it seem to be the concenses that a mechanical version is the better way to go, where do I find one? Part number ? Are there options ? Thanks

Update on reverse issue

So today was reverse motor day, as I was reading some postings about this very common problem, I decided to try a suggested remidy, putting the trike in reverse and holding in the "R" button I gave a few quick throttle twists, and low and behold, the reverse started to work as normal again.

the post I read said that the brushes inside the reverse motor has a tendency to bind up, so the engine vibration loosens them up to give them contact, not a fix, but as infrequently as I use the reverse it will work for me, and atleast I know where the problem is.

Something else I've seen people do, is give the reverse motor a good whack with a rubber mallet. Your idea might be the better one though, as crawling under a trike can be rough for us old farts.

If you ever take one apart you’ll see that the carbon brushes tend to corrode and fall apart so to fix by hitting The motor is just temporary And will stop working at the most In opportune time I changed my brushes three times before I finally went mechanical..

When you first press the R button the ECM is supposed to force a bit higher RPM for the reverse motor to operate without being a drag on the battery
 
Bob, I dunno when HD wrote the ECM idle up program for The Trikes

One thing to keep in mind, the first years 08-12 were built by Lehman in Spearfish SD

I dunno what those ECM programs were capable of?

Slight correction Jack. The first TRI-Glide was introduced in July of 2008 as a 2009 Model. Beginning with the 2011 model year production, the Tri-Glide is produced in York PA Just to clarify.
