So, after a major zoom consultation between myself and several doctors, I was given the go ahead to get back on three wheels. Followed Carla's lead and bought a Can-Am Spyder RT LTD. It's still in the crate. It will stay there till I get back from my trip to CA and CO to see the grandkids again. Otoh, I may just delay it by a week. Going to ride it for a bit to break in the OE seat before deciding to upgrade. Ditto the extended reach handlebars. Ordered a trailer for it as I had to agree to trailering it to the rallies. Such is life. At least I'm riding again.

Congrats Michael. I echo Carla's suggestion to visit spyderlovers forum. There is a wealth of information. I am canamjhb on that forum. That forum is very different than here at TT. But well worth looking into. I bought a 2014 RTL in 2016 and rode it for 3+ years. I had a very hard time adjusting to riding a Spyder after 40 years on 2 wheels. The Spyder riding technique is very different from 2 wheels or a traditional 3 wheel trike. Again, a wealth of information to help you. Enjoy and hope to see you out and about..... Jim

good news, hope to cross path sometime down the road.
The good thing is I've been off a scoot for just shy of 4 years. Yes, it will be different from a conventional trike. I looked at the Wing conversions. Just wasn't impressed. I needed a clean sheet of paper. Judging from the pictures she has posted, Paws is petite. As such, if she can handle it, this stocky little Sicilian can.

I bought them directly from Heli-Bars. $599.00, free ship. They were easy to install except for one hitch. The wire bundle did not seem long enough to accomodate the new bars. Read a tip on SLovers you have to remove right-hand panel (we removed ONLY the panel under the speaker) to get to the wire bundle. They have tied up the extra slack in both the left and right bundles together in one bunch under that one panel - but hard to reach into to get snippers in there. Just snipped the zip-tie or plastic clip holding the bundles together then gently pulled on them - plenty of slack. Zip-tie the bundles to their appropriate handlebar as they were on the original bars, put the side panel back on, then start playing with the adjustments. When we ran into this we called Heli-Bars for assistance - the tech did not know but said he would refer it to the head mechanic. We got it figured out before we heard back from the head mechanic. He asked if we would send pics showing how we did this so they could update their instructions. We did. The video on their website does not show this being a problem probably because they were operating on an F3...maybe they will update the video itself at some point.
The Comfort Seat: Couple of weeks ago we demo'd the Sea-to-Sky Special Edition because my friend was very interested in it. I thought my Spyder's seat was plush - geesh - that comfort seat is PLUSH! However, I have not had to use my Air Hawk on my seat yet. Of course both seats are heated as well as the grips. I was passenger on the Special Edition and got a LOT of the Spyder dance swaying back there as opposed to riding passenger on mine - mine rode great for the passenger. Don't know what the difference would have been between the two bikes on that but the seat was great.
Really the only thing more my Spyder will get are car tires as soon as these OEM tires wear out. I have read the ride and handling is as different as night and day.
By the way - be sure they tell you about the brake drums I think he said - or was it the rotors?...can't remember exactly - will ask my friend. My dealer told me to give the brakes some GOOD HARD workouts before 1000 miles. He told us if the bike wobbles or pulls left or right when applying the brakes that the drums/rotors? need replacing,,, apparently a common problem brand-new out of the crate...and it will be covered under warranty. After 1000 miles that particular item is not covered. He said if the problem presents then to get it to him ASAP - not wait til 995 miles then drive 26 miles to his shop...the problem MUST be presented AT THE SHOP BEFORE 1000 miles. So far, so good with mine. He pointed out that this is not mentioned in the owner's manual and lots of dealers fail to mention it. I have put it to the test on every ride we take... either coming to rural stop signs or avoiding squirrels...
New course heading Mr. Sulu: ...2nd star to the right and straight on til morning...!!
Scooter and Sassi....2 furrever.
That is good to know. It gets uncrated today, delivered tomorrow.

Welcome to the Spyder World. As you have been out of the saddle fot 4 years there will be a lot you are rusty on. Some of that will be good but some not so good. Take your time, lots of short rides on slower twisty roads, lots of hard stops, Lots of starting to think about what you need to do on your trike to stay safe. All those little things that are second nature to us after riding awhile. Practice, practice. Gives you a good excuse to ride. BTW saw you over on Spyderlovers. Congrats on the new Spyder, many happy smiles.
Happy TRAils/NSD
