Cost of Trikes

Whats up with the dealers jacking the price of Trikes up way above averag?

I just sold my Ultra Classic and want to get a Tri Glide but My goodness!

Doug......Welcome to Trike-Talk.......:wave4:....

As far as dealers jacking the prices...In Harleys case they sell every trike that they make...Supply and demand...

In our area of the country we have one dealer that plays the what kind of payment do you want and they don't have prices on the bikes. But 17 miles east the dealer I work with has all bikes priced with factory MSRP, we just had a dealer west of us in Indiana close that was top notch and priced all the bikes with MSRP.

Our dealer on our new trike was MSRP, no negotiations on the CVO but we got some things thrown in. The dealership cannot keep them in stock, my '15 I traded in resold the next day.

Simple: Supply & Demand .......

Look at the used car market or the housing market for that matter.

Yeah things are crazy and getting out of hand imo. Took delivery of my 2020 TG on 12/31/2019 (yeah New Year's Eve) and got a smokin' deal on it too as the dealer needed a couple more sales to finish out the year. I sure look forward to negotiating for new Harley's - NOT. In fact I absolutely hate it. So I'll probably keep this one for a while . . . well unless they come out with something so much better I simply can't resist, lol.

look around theres a lot of new used around, with little to no miles on them privet owners craigslist ebay cycle trader lots of people buy them and dont like them, cant afford the $ 750 a month payment the dealer stuck them with < some will take a good loss . in 2017 I bought a 2016 free wheeler 3000 miles from a lady for $16000 it was on cragslist list for months , she was sick of all the bullshitters with no money

Got a buddy who has been looking for a used trike. He isn't picky and would consider anything between a 2012 and 2016 or so. I was in Black Widow Harley before leaving Florida and they had a black 2016. The price listed on it was within $1,000 of what I paid for my black 2016 brand new before fees and taxes! Maybe they would have taken $20,000 or $22,000, don't know, but the price on the handlebar was stupid high.

Harley tactic. Back in the 90's they did the same thing, hold back production to increase prices and demand to include dealer market pricing and waiting lists. In the situation occurring now, they are blaming the the price increase because of the change in shipping companies. But, we're suckers and will continue to pay whatever the mothership demands.

High Trike prices

I just bought a 2021 Snake Venom. My first bike I’ve bought from a dealer in 8 years, the first bought locally.

Fortunately for me I went in with plenty of info because they wanted 5 k over MSRP. It worked out to MSRP plus 2500 for freight and setup and 2500 they couldn’t explain. It was a tough negotiation as I was trading a cherry 2013 ElectraGlide loaded with feuling camchest kit and tons of upgrades. I knew exactly how many trikes were available locally( not many) and nationally and the trade in and list prices for my trade in . I ended up at MSRP plus the 2500 set up plus TTL . I got a fair trade in plus $500.00 in parts I wanted.

All that said trikes sell quickly here in the New Orleans area but there are deals to be had. I watched eBay, cycle trader and chopper exchange for months and feel like I got the most for my money going new. One dealer told me they are jacking prices up over MSRP “ because they can” and suggested that that’s what The MoCo is wanting them to do.

Good thing for me is I’d walk away if I didn’t get the right deal.

Supply and demand plays a big part in the pricing. I am surprised at the demand right now. In March of this year I sold a 2012 CSC GW in just a couple of days and got my asking price which was at the up end of retail. I could have sold several more had I had them to sell. I think a lot of us are at an age that we have to or want to get off of two wheels but want to continue riding. I purchased a DCT CSC GW to replace the one I sold and am very satisfied with the deal and the trike.

Yes, and that dealer in Ind also sold below MSRP. Bought 2 bikes & 2 trikes from them over the last 11 yrs. Always easy to deal with. Honest people & fair labor rates. They also did not charge those fat flat rate fees others charged for service, actual time spent for the periodic oil changes & inspections. Luckily they are still in business & will work on HD, just no warranty work. They will honor some after market ESP warranties.

My trike will continue to have work needed, done by Shades MC repair. MSRP prices were on every bike they sold & only accessories asked for were installed at time of purchase,NOT all the fat that other dealer installed to help drive the $$ up. If you go in a shop that doesn't have the price on the bike, you better find another dealer or get prepared & bend over.
