An Interesting Story

In December, 2020, a good friend of mine in Cincinnati bought a preowned 2018 GL1800 DCT from the original buyer in Michigan. Bike only had 1200 miles on it. Had it several months, and putting less than 5000 miles on it, had a noise in the rear end. Took it to a CSC authorized dealer north of Cincinnati and they found that several bolts on the kit had not been tightened. They repaired it but charged him 200 plus dollars. The kit was installed by Horizon, an authorized CSC installer in Arkansas. My friend called Horizon who refused to reimburse the cost of the 200 plus dollar repair. My friend claimed the only assistance CSC gave him was, after several days, provided the name of the installer. Shouldn't CSC or someone be responsible for the repair? Doesn't the manufacturer have some control over their authorized installers? If so, what good is a warranty? If anyone is interested I can PM my friends name and number.

I have encouraged that. He apparently got burned a while ago on a site somewhat like this and remains hesitate unfortunately. I'm really hoping there will be interest with the CSC folks. I would think they would want to look into this. I have had a couple of CSC kits, have always had great response from the folks there when i have questions but I've never really had a warranty issue

I would think the installing dealer should be responsible to reimburse him. It's not a warranty issue since it was never installed correctly.

Looking at their warranty, it says it covers the original owner and subsequent owners for the duration of the warranty. The warranty they offer is one of the best in the field at 5 years and unlimited miles.

What isn't clear is did your friend buy it as a motorcycle and have it converted or was it already a trike when he bought it?

And why didn't he try reaching out to California Sidecar first before authorizing the repair? I'm also kind of surprised that an authorized CSC installer that made the corrections didn't reach out to CSC for reimbursement because the trike was obviously still under warranty as it is a 2018. Is there any info or reasoning why the Cincinatti place didn't do that?

I'll try to answer your questions.. Yes, the Wing was Triked when he bought it. CSC would only tell him what installer put the kit on since the bike already triked and originally sold by Honda of Russellville. He did reach out to CSC He said they indicated he had to take it up with the company that installed the kit. Which he did The dealer in Cincinnati apparently talked with Horizon but Horizon took the position that somebody else MAY have serviced the bike. The only thing they said was to bring to back to southern Arkansas. Not much help in you live north of Cincinnati

Bump........And just to add ask him to join here;; We don't bite!...So it would be a lot easer to answer the questions without all the going back and forth...ThumbUp..

Your friend lives in Cincinatti - purchased a bike from a guy in Michigan, who 1200 miles ago had the bike converter in Arkansas?

Your friend is afraid to come here to ask the questions.

Perhaps it's me - but I somehow think there is much more to this story.

No not at all. He bought the bike last year from the original owner in Michigan. The original owner bought the bike from Honda of Russellville, who has Horizon install kits on their new Wings before the time of the original sale

I give up. I was attempting to help a friend of mine and half the people on here think I'm trying to pull some kind of scam. So much for assistance. Forget it folks . Sorry I bothered to post anything.

Most offered you some sort of assistance - the best is he should work this out with CSC if the unit was still under warranty. They have a 5-year warranty - so, a 2018 should still be covered.

When did all of this happen and, how long before he went to csc for a resolution? Purchased it in Dec 2020, rode a few months - so, say six months to June or July.

Still think your friend should get on here and ask the questions.

From what I gather from the posts Honda of Russelville sold it to an individual in Michigan, the actual builder is Horizon and I wonder if they didn't check their work to make sure everything was correct before handing it off to the Honda dealer. Here's an interesting question and that is can the warranty be transferred to a new owner? Can someone read the legalize on their warranty paperwork and verify.
