California SideCar Trike Kit on 2007 Harley-Davidson Ultra Classic - Front End Wobble

We never rode the Harley before adding the trike kit. From day one, the front end would wobble when going over bumps. Now it has gotten worse, plus the trike now shakes when at a stop. Having a difficult time finding a dependable CSC trike mechanic in our area. We do not have a way to transport the trike to CSC in Virginia, and it cannot be driven that far. If anyone else has had this problem, how and where was it fixed?

Hello & :welcome: to Trike Talk, glad to have U with Us. :clapping:

Any competent motorcycle shop or even trike shop in your area should be able to tighten the steering head bearings.

There's 2 in Chattanooga and 1 in Knoxville from the CSC siteCrockett Powersports Chattanooga

Like Val said probably needs head bearings tightened which any competent repair shop can do.I can call a buddy or 2 and maybe find an indy shop if none of those will work for you.I know some people in the Knoxville area.

I am aware of all the CSC shops in and around Tennessee. It is at a reputable Harley mechanic shop at the moment; and they are going to check out the bearings, the engine mounts (due to the shaking), etc., etc. However, they are not familiar with the CSC trikes; so I am interested in knowing if anyone else has had this problem and what was their solution.

Thank everyone for your replies.

Thanks. If the current shop I'm trying doesn't work out, I'll let you know. It's always good to find local Harley mechanics who can work on trikes. My husband has a TriGlide, which is always an easier repair situation . . . if you want to go to a Harley dealer.

Hi Shirley, :welcome:to Trike Talk

Sorry to hear you are already having problems with your Trike

You have been given some good leads here, you may also want to talk about a steering damper with the techs you choose if your Trike does not already have one

I've had my trike since 2007. The wobble has just gotten worse, and now I have the shaking problem.

We really need to assess the problems first before we add a damper. A damper might even make the steering more difficult for a person with less and less arm muscles every year! I don't believe that CSC adds dampers to their trikes, even now; but I could be wrong. My husband's TriGlide does have one.

I believe my problems are more Harley bike than CSC trike problems, so that's why my trike is now at a Harley mechanic. Anyway, CSC dealers are not usually very good mechanics from what I've experienced. I've tried a few (including the person who built my trike) and spoken to the remaining in my area who mostly build Honda trikes.

I'll get it repaired eventually. It's just always frustrating for me since we cannot get it up to the manufacturer in Virginia. Once I do have it fixed, I might just sell it and buy a TriGlide. They are not as comfortable but, as I said before, you can always find someone who can work on them and fit them on their lift.

Finally found someone to torque the lower bearing properly to 35 pounds (it was at 5 pounds). All is now well. Thanks everyone.

On a 07, I would get someone to check the front motor mount if you haven’t yet. On my 07 Electra Glide I changed it to a glide pro I think and it made my ride smoother… I know you got you other issue fixed but get your front mount checked …
