Hi, just transitioned from motorcycles to a trike. Couple of reasons, have a problem knee and since I am in my early 60's felt this would be the smart thing to do rather than risk an incident where my knee would buckle and cause me to drop a motorcycle. Also wanted to start touring a bit, something that until I reached semi-retirement I didn't have time to do. Felt the trike would have more capacity for luggage and be easier to manage with that luggage weight.

Had a new trike on order and it continues to sit on the dock at HD waiting for parts. Dealership said they traded for a 2020 with 4000 miles in mint condition and asked if I was interested. Since they also said the plant was shut down for at least 2 weeks and probably the best delivery date guess would be end of June, first of July range. Worse case would be anyone's guess. With trade values at an all time high I took the 2020. Couldn't afford for the deal to fall apart due to no delivery. Dealership stepped up with a great deal for me on both the new and used one. They had one of my motorcycles sold pending me getting the trike. Took the deal.

Got the factory warranty extended for 2 more years. They said it pays well and if I had problems on the road it covered towing, lodging and meals if necessary, etc. Wondering if anyone has had experience with their warranty and a breakdown that took a few days to fix. Since I intend to ride through northwest Nebraska, Wyoming, Montana and Idaho I could be in what other folks call "no man's land" but I call Gods land with a long drive or tow to a dealership! Hope it was a good decision.

Now researching camping gear suitable to pack on a trike. Searching the forms for suggestions and reviews on what is good and what may not be so good. Probably not going for a pull behind trailer until I get some miles on the trike and some experience trike camping. Guess some dealerships could void the warranty if they see a trailer hitch.

I have a lot to learn about touring. Riding in weather other than sunshine, locating clean and safe campgrounds, how many miles driven in a day is too many, etc. Follow some youtube channels that cover some of this with the guys riding motorcycles instead of trikes.

This forum has a lot of information to review so I will do that before I ask questions that already have answers.

Thank you and have a great day. Life offers no mulligans. If you are in your early retirement years how are you going to live your next 10 years? Live it or watch others on youtube live what you want to do?

Regards,

Dean

Hi Dean, :welcome: to Trike Talk

Congrats on your purchase

I like extended warranties, I do not own a car so break downs are a concern to me

I did use an extended warranty on a trip to Sturgis from Florida, I broke a throttle cable

I stopped a t a dealer in St Paul Mn, they did not have a cable in stock but next day aired it in @ no charge to me

The surprise was it was the chrome cable set, my extended warranty paid for it and the install with no charge to me

New trike rider

A most WELCOME to you Dean, it seems like you have a GREAT outlook and GREAT ideas

re your future! I bought my HD trike new in 2010 and camped out almost all the years since (no trailer), found most backpacking gear worked very well for me. Definitely agree that the extended warr. is a smart move!

I’m slowing down now with 108 k miles on her but was still riding my 2-wheeler also up until 2 yrs. ago.

GOOD LUCK and hope you ENJOY THE RIDE!
