Florida Keep Your Eyes on the Tropics

We're up in Kentucky right now, plan to be in Macon, Ga tomorrow night and home by Tuesday afternoon. We're watching this real close and will make a decision tomorrow night on what to do. Maybe wait a couple of days somewhere before heading home.

The local Ocala newspaper is predicting a category 4, but as this thing heads into the warmer Gulf waters, who knows? Hunkering down up in Macon may be a good idea as Florida isn't a good place to be this week. Good luck.

All ya'll are in our thoughts and prayers. Be safe.

And Gary, Macon sounds like a good place to hang for a few days. Don't want this storm to chase you and Jo Ann like the one did a few years back on your way home from Maggie Valley!

We're in Macon, Ga for the night, it looks like it will head this way after landfall so we're going to head over to Montgomery Alabama for a few days and wait things out before trying to head back to Florida. They're predicting around a 10' storm surge so our downtown will take a beating, our home is fairly high, around the 22' mark and a couple of miles inland so wind damage should be the only factor. Wait and see is all we can do.

Hopefully Ian hasn't talked with Irma and won't follow you all over the state like last you tried that.

We're in Montgomery, AL for a couple of days. According to NOAA the storm will make landfall about 50 miles south of us instead of a direct hit, that will be a blessing for us, not so much for Sarasota. We've been in contact with neighbors and the local weatherheads are saying only 70-80 mph winds but anywhere from 12 to 18 inches of rain.

We have friends in Satsuma which is across from Gainsville so hopefully she will only get some wind and rain. But our other friends have a winter home in Cape Coral, they are very nervous at this point, he has two trikes there along two cars and their home.

Hope everybody can ride the storm out and stay safe.. Also hopefully they saved the plywood to board up their windows from the last time a storm came through so they don’t have to buy new plywood at today’s prices…At my camp we would board up the back porch for winter and mark the sheets of plywood and the rafters where they fit so we would reuse it over and over again 20 years plus then this way we wouldn’t have to rush out to a Home Depot and buy and cut plywood to fit every winter!..

The left coast area and Orlando are getting tons of water and wind right now

Here in NE Florida the rain is just starting, no wind yet

This is a huge storm, it will cover the entire peninsula today

Hope everyone is safe from this monster. We were just in Key West last week - Sun & Mon, Sep 18th & 19th. Beautiful weather, hot as heck but dry for the most part. Don't think we would enjoy it right about now.

So far we dodged the bullet at home, talked to our neighbor tonight and we didn't have any power outages at all. 40 - 50 mph winds but no damage so far but it's been raining for 2 days now and no flooding in our area. If everything stays the same tomorrow we will be heading to Florida on Friday and arrive Saturday afternoon.

Jack, good prep and God bless you have good fortune as it heads your way.
