Save me from all the searching; what seat do you have on your Freewheeler?

This is a crosspost from HD Forums so if you respond there just duplicate your response here if you want.

I crossposted because I know some monitor this forum but not the other.

I’ve been searching high and low for compatible seats for my Freewheeler.

What I’m after is a wider more comfortable pillion for my Wife that I can also live with.

I demoed the Sundowner, the Reach and the Tallboy.

The Sundowner was basically what I have now with only an 11 inch wide passenger pillion.

The Reach had the most passenger seat space but it moved me 1.5” forward which crammed my nuts against the tank.

I found the Tallboy the most comfortable however even though the passenger pillion was increased to 15 inches in width it’s depth was reduced about 1.5 inches which is the amount of distance it pushed me back into the saddle so the Wife felt cramped.

So what do you have that is comfortable for you while allowing your passenger to have a generous amount of seating space?

I’m not looking to mortgage the house to buy a seat but I’m also not against spending a decent amount of cash for something that’s comfortable and works.

Lastly I’m not looking for opinions on what you’ve heard will fit on a Freewheeler but rather I’m looking for those who actually have a specific seat on their Freewheeler and what that specific seat is so that I can do some research on that seat to determine if it’s going to meet my needs.

Mustang has 2 models that fit it. That's what I'm running and it's an all day seat for me and passenger both.

Mustang actually has three models for the Freewheeler all touring.

The Super Touring which my understanding is kind of like the Harley Tallboy in that it moves your back 2 inches which takes up space from the passenger. But I don’t know this to be fact so maybe somebody who has this seat can tell me what is the depth of the passenger pillion.

The Standard Touring which I believe is similar to the Harley Sundowner but has a 2 inch wider passenger pillion.

And the Forward Touring which I believe is similar to the Harley Reach in that it moves the driver 2 inches forward.

The Standard touring is on top of my list right now.

I don't recommend seats for the same reason I dont recommend bars, foot rests, helmets or wives. Everyone is different. But I do have the Mustang touring. No complaints from me or passenger. Looks like the mailorder houses are ramping up Black Friday sales early and some are offering free shipping.

I’m not looking for recommendations.

I’m looking only to see what everyone’s got so I can do my own research to see if their seat may meet my needs.

Basically I’m looking for a stock seat with a wider than an 11” passenger pillion.

If the Harley Hammock seat would fit a Freewheeler that’s the seat I’d go with.

I’ve been researching seats for quite some time and basically only the Mustang Standard Touring seat seems to come close to meeting my needs.

That seat apparently mimics the stock seat size wise with an added 2” in width for the passenger pillion that’s results in 13” wide.

I’ve got the Harley Signature Series seat on my Heritage which has a 14” wide passenger pillion that the Wife likes a lot.

Her only really complaint about the stock Freewheeler pillion is it’s only 11” wide.

The Hammock seat will fit as well as all of the Touring seats

I have been running a Road King seat on my Freewheeler, it has been on my 15, 17 and now my 21

I demo’d a Hammock seat and it would not fit the Freewheeler.

Unless something was amiss when I tried to install it the pan was too wide in the rear to fit into the space that’s on the Freewheeler so the mounting tab was elevated about 2”.

If you’ve mounted the Hammock on a Freewheeler perhaps I should demo it again just to make sure whether or not it fits my Freewheeler.

I have heard others speak highly of the Road King seat and I’m keeping my eye open for a used one.

The Road King seats ( stock) have a wider passenger seating area, they fit I know this for sure as I am still running one

I have not run the Hammock seat, tho if it fits the touring bikes it should fit the FLRT models also

My wife always smiles when she rides with me. The stock seat sucks ( her words) not mine

I also like the pocket of the Road King seat, it gives me a bit of lower back support

+1 on the Road King seats. If you look around you may find a new take off at a good price.

It depends on the Hammock seat, there are different models. I have both a rider and passenger heated hammock and a rider only Hammock.

The rider and passenger hammock won't fit. Its just like you say "the pan was too wide in the rear to fit into the space that’s on the Freewheeler so the mounting tab was elevated about 2”."

It's a bummer the heated seat won't fit at all. However I think the rider only Hammock is way more comfortable. I can ride over 800 miles a day on that seat.

The rider only Hammock installs like normal but there is a gap above the side covers. Probably not good if you get caught in the rain. It has a regular passenger seat like on a Ultra seat and the riders portion is a Hammock. It sits you farther back from the tank and higher. I've enclosed a picture of mine installed on the trike.

I've also had a stock Ultra seat and a Russel Day long seat made off a stock ultra seat pan installed. They both install ok and I don't remember the gap being there on them.

I have the HD Hammock on an '18 Freewheeler. The older style Hammock was a GREAT seat! Newer models have been 'cheapened' down...cost is still up there, but not the same Hammock as 4-5 years ago. It's an ok seat...and does fit the Freewheelers.

Perhaps I need to go back and demo the Hammock again.

Perhaps my OEM driver’s backrest mount got in the way.

Can you post a picture?

I just went out to compare my stock seat with my Freewheeler specific Sundowner seat. Stock seat is 11” wide for passenger and 15” for the rider. Sundowner measures 13” passenger and 17” for the rider. The top or (nearly) flat area for the passenger is also 2” wider, 8” compared with 10”. Also, the height of the passenger seat is an inch thicker. There may be more than one style of Sundowner touring seat available. Mine is 52000183 for FLRT.

seat replacement

I replaced the stock 2015 freewheeler with a mustang seat & could not be happier, I ,m an older guy with a bad back & to go for a 2 hr. ride would require some tylenol & would still hurt when I got off I have had mustang seats on my 2 wheelers for years & traveled 100s of mi. pain free their not cheap but worth every penny in my book the construction is also second to none imho.

I ran a sundowner seat on a street glide I had before the freewheeler. It felt really good for about 7 or 8,000 miles, by 10,000 it was terrible. I replaced it with the hammock seat, it wouldn't fit the freewheeler or it would be on there now. At the time HD didn't make a hammock seat for the freewheeler so I went with the mustang. I've got 15,000 on the mustang and it's better than the sundowner ever was. Not as good as the hammock but real close.
