Greetings Ladies & Gents

Just picked up a pair of new Bell Pit Boss 1/2 Helmets for the new Freewheeler. Vivid black to match the Vivid Black Trike. These will be set up with the new Sena 20s Evo Bluetooth sound/communication system which connects directly to the iPhone for music, voice activated intercom with Debs and even answers incoming phone calls. We had an older version with our Ultra Classic that plugged into the bike. This set up is completely hands free and really very cool.

19 States

Muh...mus....mush...mushro...I just cant bring myself to say it.

I hear ya ORD ... California has over 785,000 registered motorcycles and a mandatory helmet law. 18 other states have the same law. I order the helmets 1 size larger as Bell has a ratcheting system to adjust the fit, this way they don't sit on top of your head. If ya gotta wear one ... might as well be the best setup available don't ya think?

I've never worn anything but half helmets. The one I've been using since the late '90s is a cheater half helmet. There's no motorcycle inspections here anymore and the cops have better things to do than to stop everybody and check for some kind of certification sticker, which isn't required here anyway. Never have gotten a second look in any state I've ever ridden through and there's no mushroom head look to it.

Been riding since I was 15 and now I’m like a hundred. Always matched the helmet with the bike I was on. Back in my youth riding rockets, always had full face paint matched helmets. Getting older and more upright went to matching open face helmets. Looked at a bunch of different stuff that would look best on the throwback roadster style of the Freewheeler … Bell’s Pit Boss checked all the boxes and amazing sound was just a great addition.

I was pretty beat up when I had an accident taking DW's trike for service. Don't know what happened but based on other injuries and the scrapes on my 20 year-old Harley half-helmet, it saved my life. If I'd been wearing a beanie, I wouldn't be posting this. Wear or don't wear whatever you like - I know what I'll wear.

That was just over a year ago - I'm pretty well healed now and DW has a new Freewheeler.

Good to hear that your on the mend Joe. I grew up always wearing the best helmets available. Here in SC we have a ton of bikes. 3 official Bike Weeks every year and the majority of riders don't wear any helmets. That's no problem for me and me wearing a quality helmet is no problem for them. Biker lid beanie helmets are for show in states where you are required to wear one. If they afforded any protection they would carry the DOT certification that a quality helmet has. That being said ... I fully support whatever makes any rider comfortable.

Don't put too much faith in those helmet certifications. It's mostly BS.

Good Vid

Thanks for the vid JT ... I did enjoy it. I don't really ever put any weight into anything written in the NY Times (and they didn't even believe their own story, firing the reporter) But I think that we can all agree that none of us want to try out the quality of our helmets by going over the handlebars. That being said, and the basic false sense of security we get from the protection we choose, I still pick helmet 1 over helmet 2.

I came up on dirt bikes, full face with goggles. Moved to street bikes/sport bikes, full face. Now on cruisers and touring, still a full face helmet. I spend most of my time on the interstate going back and forth to work. I want my melon protected by a quality helmet. I run an LS2 Challenger GT track helmet on the interstate and an LS2 Stream for normal riding. I will put on my half helmet if I'm just running around in town but otherwise, it's always full face. I've had enough incidents where if not for a full face or a chin bar at least, I would not have a face. Those face shields protect from flying debris as well. I don't knock those who don't wear helmets though. We are ultimately responsible for ourselves.

Praise Be my brother … It was a beautiful day coming over the causeway in Miami Beach. I was thoroughly enjoying the amazing view, riding a little Sporty and taking in the sites. Didn’t notice everyone stopped at the light until I hit the back of the stopped car at around 40mph. Over the bike, over the car and ended up on the hood. Wrecked the bike broke 3 ribs and my left leg. Really glad I was wearing a quality full face helmet. 0F7F0F42-D1F9-43BA-B45C-9FB4ABAB3CA3.jpeg

When I was a young lad, I hit a dog. I did a face plant on the road. (No helmet)

I was racing another motorcycle on a twisty road, I looked behind me to see how far ahead I was from the other bike, then he raised up and pointed, I know what the top of a car looks like now, it was stopped in the road. I hit the pavement in front of the car running. (No helmet)

I also know what the bottom of a car looks like from the man that ran over me while I was stopped at a red light. He was racing another car, He was drunk and the only thing that stopped him was when he hit the light pole and broke it. What saved me was the foot peg on my motorcycle. (No Helmet)

I took a friend hunting once and he stuck his shot gun barrel into the spokes of my back tire in a curve. (No helmet)

Each time, I WISH I had a Helmet. There are other stories, and YES, I wear a helmet now.

I have several and have thought about a newer one.

I have let several helmets go with the bikes when I sold them since they were the same color. I do not care what others do, but I wear a helmet. Even if it is not required.

I only see ONE helmet in your photos.

Again, I don't care what other people wear - it's their head.

I wear a helmet 100% of the time, and it's not A stupid USEless beanie cap......... it's your head, "be smart" wear it 100% of the time... Ronnie 12/21/22

I take mine off every chance I get. Been doing it for over 50 years. I've been down on the asphalt more than once and my head never hit the ground, mostly due to not having 5 pounds of fiberglass wrapped around it and I walked away from every drop. A lot of studies over the years have indicated an increase in neck injuries from helmets. Other's have pointed out that the chin area of a full face can crack and penetrate the neck in a crash, ouch. That being said it is true that in 40% of mc fatalities the rider was not wearing a helmet. Of course, conversely, that means that 60% were. That's why so many states leave it up to the rider. If you feel better or more secure with it on by all means do so, but the choice should be mine.
