Rear Sprocket Alignment

I am a newbie here and somewhat to Harley's as well. A few years ago I inherited a 05 Softail STD that has a DNA Specialties rear axle conversion to a trike.

Last year the rear sprocket needed replacing so as I do with all of my cars and motorcycles since I was 16, a mere 51 years ago, I did it myself. I got the new sprocket on without issue eye balled the alignment for the chain, it was converted to a chain from a belt at the time of the trike conversion, and everything seemed fine.

The new rear sprocket wore out by the middle of the season. I replaced it again and did some investigating on what I could have missed and from the way it wore I don't believe I had the front and rear sprockets aligned correctly. I have done searches as many ways as I can think of with my wording but I can not find a single you tube video or article about how to align these 2 sprockets on a trike and as it is starting to get nice in MI again I want to get my trike out but I don't want to have a repeat of last year.

Any help in finding something that will describe how to be sure they are aligned or guidance would sure be appreciated. I tried a search in the forums here but came up short, I apologize if there are threads addressing this that I just didn't find if you can point those out I would be happy to dig through them to find my answers.

Have a great Easter and a fantastic Summer of riding.

Can you post A picture of the old sprocket so we can see what you mean by it wearing ?

The bottom one is the first worn one I took off, the top one was the new one that wore out and looked just like the bottom one within a few months. The old one does not have any teeth missing they are just covered with the wrapping it is sitting on. Thanks for replying.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes. I have not called DNA but that is a good idea, thank you.

Dan

I did call DNA and left a message asking them to call me about one of their conversion kits but never heard back from them. I guess I will try again, it got cold again in western MI and I kind of lost my momentum on getting it out, and back on the road. :(

No one returns calls anymore….I guess they figured if it’s something that important you will call “Them” Back a few more times…😡..
