All 42 Accessories for my 2022 Tri Glide (but no video-- sorry)

I had originally planned on posting short 2-minute videos talking about each of the 42 accessories I have. I did the first one here:

https://www.triketalk.com/forum/thr...-Tri-Glide-Accessories-WHIM-ClearBra-Quadlock

If any of the following information is helpful to anyone, I am glad that I helped you. Sorry I won't be doing any more videos. Most of these mods you can see in the single video I did, but there's a ton more I could say about most of them.

Regarding my upgrades:

"************"

For me, all upgrades must either add to rider comfort, rider convenience, ond/or add to the health and longevity of the motorcycle.

That is why I would ALWAYS do a Stage 1 upgrade, and NEVER do a Stage 2 upgrade. I would also ALWAYS combine Stage 1 with an External Breather, to keep carbon build up away from the internals. The Harley Screamin’ Eagle filter does not add an external breather without drilling it out and modding it, so I won’t do a Screaming’ Eagle Stage 1. I did DK Customs parts, but many other good options are possible.

Stage 1 lets your bike breath easier, so I would ALWAYS do it.

Stage 2 increases your horse power by changing the cam, but this adds stress to the rest of the components, so I would NEVER do it.

With a focus on comfort and convenience, I also would never buy a trike that did not have a Tour-Pak (such as the Freewheeler, Road Glide 3, or various conversions). That extra luggage space is important to me.

For similar reasons, I would never buy a trike that did not have a full front fairing (Freewheeler, et al).

But that’s all just me, and what I like and focus on.

ClearBra, to protect the paint. Done by the Salt Lake City ClearBra franchisee. Overpriced. Not worth it. DK Customs has an alternate paint protection that I recommend instead. See their Youtube video titled “How To Ceramic Coat a Harley-Davidson Tri Glide For a Mirror Finish and Paint Protection”, here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPE3HHnxskY

“*************”

Harley: WHIM (Wireless Headphone Interface Module). $332.95, plus installation cost. Complete waste of money. Just connect your headphones to your phone (via bluetooth), and put your phone on a phone stand on your handlebars.

“*************”

Quad Lock Phone Mount: from quadlockcase.com, $99.99, with vibration dampener $19.99.

“*************”

WINDSHIELD: Klock Werks FLARE™ FOR H-D 2014-2022 FLH, SKU: KWW-01-0198-2014 (2310-0473), Size: 6.5”,

Color: Tint, Price: $199.95, www.getklocked.com

I like to be able to look over the windshield, but I also don’t like wind buffeting. I have found that these FLARE windshields put just the right “flare” at the top to direct the wind up and over me, while still allowing me to look over the windshield. IMO, it blocks the wind at least as well as the original, but is shorter.

I wish they were clear instead of tint. If I were to buy again, I would seriously consider these instead:

Chrome 1 in. 2+2 Custom Sweeper 1 in. Handlebar - 300519 Part #: 5900149. Khrome Werks, purchased from denniskirk.com, $149.95, plus over $600 to have my independent mechanic install it. My son says this is one of the best mods I’ve done, and I agree with him.

“*************”

Harley Airflow Heated Hand Grips. Part Number: 56100342, $310.95. On my 2014 Tri Glide, I had some heated grips that had a lot of metal surface area around the grip. I hated that— they were slippery. These grips are much preferred.

I have heated gear AND these grips. I have both, and recommend both (I ride all year round).

The problem with heated gear is that it takes 10 minutes to fully gear up (with everything). It's just not worth it for a 15 minute ride to work. The "plus" side of heated gear is obvious-- if I fully gear up, I can probably go down to 10 degree weather just fine.

The problem with just having heated grips is the back of the hand still gets cold.

“*************”

RickRak Harley-Davidson Gas Kap Keeper Magnet. From lawabidingbiker.com. $14.95. Essential.

It only took one time of forgetting and leaving my gas cap behind on a fuel pump to become a strong believer in this $14.95 add-on.

“*************”

Front Suspension - Progressive Fork Spring Kit, from DK Custom Products. $131.95, plus about $300 to pay my independent Harley mechanic to install it and the Intimidator valves. Expensive, but worth it. I think I would do this again even if I did not have the back shocks replaced.

“*************”

Intiminator Fork Valves, from DK Customs, $199.95. This is an essential mod. I would buy the required fork oil from DK Customs at the same time (an additional $27.90)

“*************”

Long Angled Adjustable Highway Peg Mount Kit. Purchased directly from Harley. Part Number: 50829-07A. I paid $118.95, but I see they raised their price now to $142.95.

I combined this with Harley Mini Footboard Kit - Small as my highway pegs. $139.95, Part Number: 50500139. That combination gives me highway pegs that allow my heel to be kept on my floorboards, and the ball of the foot on the highway peg. I like that flexibility.

“*************”

COOLING DEFLECTOR WINGS: DK-CDW-TRG-1H From DK Custom Products. $74.95. This is an essential mod, and will increase the life of your engine, adding value *well* beyond the cost of the mod.

DK Customs sells wings both with and without a tank lift. Get the tank lift, and buy the deflector wings version for trikes that have the tank lift.

“*************”

Black Powder Coat Finish 1.5" Touring Tank Lift, DK-TRG-TLK-15, $59.95 from DK Customs. Also Deluxe Option $11.95 DK-DLXO-SFTO (rear tank lift instead of just the front). Essential mod.

“*************”

409 Black Spark Plug Wires, DK-WRS-TV-TRG from DK Customs. $69.95. If you are taking the tank off anyway (for the tank lift), you might as well upgrade the plug wires.

“*************”

HIFLOW 606 AIR CLEANER: From DK Custom Products. $339.95. Essential mod.

Base M8 BackplateExternal Breather System: Hose and Filter Style Breather - $35.00Rain Sock fits Outlaw 606 & Pro Billet Air Cleaners - $29.95$404.90 TOTAL COST

I initially bought the “Naked” version so that I could use my stock air filter cover (I wanted to hide the fact that I had a high flow air cleaner). But the 606 combined with the stock air cover adds about an inch to the width, with the cover poking my leg a bit. I did not like it. So to get the width back to approximately the original width, I put on the spoked cover. If I had to do it again, I would just buy the 606 with the 7 spoke cover to begin with.

I did the filter style external breather, rather than the catch can. This is because the filter is lighter than the catch can, and I wanted to free hang it directly under the air cleaner rather than chase it down to a frame-mounted catch can somewhere.

“*************”

RIDER FLOORBOARD EXTENSION: From DK Custom Products (dkcustomproducts.com). This is an essential comfort mod. $69.80.

“*************”

KURYAKYN BRAKE PEDAL EXTENSION: Purchased from RevZilla.com, $53.05. Essential mod, although you might prefer DK Customs Extended Chrome ISO Brake Pedal & Extended Shift Pegs Package for $84.95. But then again, maybe not. I prefer the look of the Kuryakyn extension.

“*************”

KURYAKYN LOWER FAIRING DOOR PACKET FOR HARLEY TOURING: Purchased from RevZilla.com, $87.29. Nice mod, but not essential. In fact, if you decide to install the frame mounted Harley drink holder, the left-side door pocket will be in the way.

“*************”

Trike Mid-Step. Purchased from DK Customs, $495.95. SKU HD-TR-NF. I combined this with the Parking Brake Extension, DK-TMS-14UP-TR-PBE, at $37.95. There are some cheap Chinese knockoffs on Amazon. They are lower quality. I would not touch them.

I like this mid-step, but it's not an essential mod for me. However, for my wife, it is *definitely* an essential mod.

“*************”

Passenger Footboard and Mount Kit. HarleyPart Number: 50379-07B. $160.95. The mid-step mod requires this (but only needs the footboards part of it).

“*************”

OIL TEMPERATURE GUAGE: JES Custom Accents, $145https://jescustomaccents.com/produc...s-black-face-oil-filled-engine-oil-temp-gauge

I don’t know if I would bother with this if I were to do it again.

“*************”

Harley CoolFlow Fan. Harley Part Number: 26800128, $319.95. You either need this, or a Jim’s Forceflow fan, or possibly both. You could do Love Jugs fans instead of Jim’s Forceflow, by I think Jim’s Forceflow looks nicer. I have the CoolFlow (installed by the Harley dealer before I even picked up the trike), but I might still add the Jim’s Forceflow at a later time.

“*************”

Comfort Stitch Style Rider Backrest Kit. HarleyPart Number: 52572-09A. $213.95. Requires Rider Backrest Mounting Kit, $52.95, Part Number: 52589-09A

“**************”

Butt Buffer Sheep Skin Seat Cushion, Size Large, $145, buttbuffer.com

This is good, but I think the Airhawk Seat Cushion is probably better, and slightly less money.

About 10 years ago I had a Yamaha 1300 V-Star Tourer, and I had both the Airhawk and the Sheep Skin cover on it. The Sheep Skin looks better than the Airhawk, but the Airhawk cushions your butt better (IMO).

“*************”

Trike Saddlebags. $476.95. From Harley. These are nice to have, but require drilling holes in your fenders, so it is a permanent installation. I’m not sure I would do it again.

“*************”

Adjustable Passenger Pegs, DK-ADJ-PSG-10UP from DK Customs. $224.95. I’m still trying to decide if I like or even care about these.

“*************”

TOUR-PAK RELOCATOR: From DK Custom Products. $129.95. Essential mod.

When you install it, put it back the full 3”. This is an easy install. There are some cheap Chinese knockoffs on Amazon. They are lower quality. I would not touch them.

“*************”

Kuryakyn Pad and Filler Panel - 5201, Part #: 457782, $35.99, ordered from denniskirk.com.

Essential if you install the Tour-Pak Relocator, which in turn is essential in my opinion.

“*************”

Harley Air Wing Tour-Pak Luggage Rack. Harley Part Number: 79179-08. $213.95. Essential.

“*************”

Tour-Pak Lid Fitted Lining with Organizer - Premium Black $149.95. From Harley. Essential

*************”

Trike Trunk Door Organizer. Harley Part Number: 93300001. $71.95. I held off on buying this initially, but feel it was a very worthwhile purchase.

*************”

Pack Rack Plus - Gun & Bow Rack for ATVs and Bikes - Model PRP1. Bought off Amazon. $27.99. This is meant for carrying a rifle or a bow. I have used it for carrying a cane. I had some knee problems and needed a cane for a short period of time (but am OK now).

“*************”

COMBO PACKAGE: NEXGEN 14” SHOCKS WITH CONVERTIBLE COMFORT LIFT: FromDK Custom Products. $1,124.95

This was an expensive upgrade. Newer Tri Glides have better back shocks than older Tri Glides, so for the newer Tri Glides this mod might not be worth it (I think Harley upgraded in 2019?). To me it was worth it, because I had them installed almost immediately on my 2022, and I intend on keeping the trike for life.

Whether you get these shocks or not, I would still have the comfort lift installed.

“*************”

Chrome Rear Guard (back bumper). $228.95. I bought this directly from Harley, but I can’t find it on their website any longer. Did they discontinue it? I think this is an essential part, as it saves a $3500 repair bill if somebody (one of your kids?) backs the trike into something while in reverse.

“*************”

LOW PROFILE LED FENDER LIGHTS FOR TRIGLIDE®. SKU: CD-TGFENDER. Purchased from rickrak.com. $179.95. This is an essential addition, for safety reasons. Very easy install.

“*************”

Trike Deluxe Slip-On Exhaust Muffler V&H - Chrome, DK-VH-SO-TRI-TR from DK Customs. $699.99. This completes your Stage 1 upgrade, and will add to the health of your bike, as well as the performance.

This Slip-On has the same baffles as V&H Monster Slip-Ons, and uses the same tune (for your ECM tuner, such as the FP4).

“*************”

Thunder Torque Inserts 158, DK-TTI-158W from DK Customs. $49.95. You need these. And they are cheap.

“*************”

V&H FuelPak FP4 EFI Flash Tuner. Purchased from DK Custom Products for $459.99. To complete your Stage 1 upgrade, you will need a tune. You can either pay a mechanic to do a tune, or buy your own tuner. I would recommend you buy your own tuner. This FP4 will connect to your phone, and you can monitor ECM data via your phone.

“*************”

KemiMoto Universal Cup Holder, $24.99

Right now this is the only cup holder I have on the trike.

“*************”

Rider Cup Holder. Harley Part Number: 50700001. $66.95.

The Harley website says this part does not fit, but it is pretty easy to get it mounted. Unfortunately using it makes it so that you cannot use the KURYAKYN LOWER FAIRING DOOR Packet on the left side lower. It also was bumping into my shin. So I removed it.

Prior to this, I used a handlebar mounted cup holder, but the first time I actually used it when I hit a bump a bunch of my drink sloshed out and on to the handlebar controls. Yes, they are supposed to be waterproof, but this really bothered me. So I switched to the Harley Rider Cup Holder. But this also bothers me.

“*************”

Pingel Shift Peg Extender For Harley, $63.95, purchased from revzilla.com. Item: P278757 SKU: 970701. Essential. If you buy the DK Customs Extended Chrome ISO Brake Pedal & Extended Shift Pegs Package, you won’t need to buy this. The DK Customs package includes it.

I agree the midstep is required for my wife. Before I added mine she lost her balance dismounting, fell and broke her wrist.

Your list is appreciated and better than a collection of videos IMHO.

I’m not sure I agree with your opinion of a stage 2 upgrade though. The stock lifters are junk and need to go anyway. With a good ESP that covers all mods, I see a new cam and oil pump upgrade in my future.

P.S. I’m afraid to count my accessories. I could be tempted to run a $ total on them. :AGGHH:

I'm so glad you posted this. I don't feel so alone now. LOL. Your list almost mirrors mine except brands but a lot of mine came from DK as well. I did go with the Freedom Shield Touring Width and love it.

The only things I have left to add are my filter relocation kit and oil cooler from DK. I had it on mine but blew a hose on the interstate coming to work one night. I am switching all of the fittings to AN and going with PTFE hose for the relocation. I'll change the hose once I get ready to install the cooler later on.

Like PanheadSteve said, I'm not even counting the money. LOL.

Ha! I've got receipts going back to the early 70's! But it's a hobby...an expensive one. So are guns, cars and Women..the most expensive.

If I had a Dime for every Dollar I spent on toys that had rubber tires or belts and ran on gas ……I’ll have a lot of Dimes….

A gas cap magnet is essential?

Ridiculous.

People just can`t stop hanging doo dads on their motorcycles.

Just put the cap on the seat of the bike and pump your gas, or hold it in your hand.

That’s what I do. I just put the cap on the seat this way if I sit down on the cap and it sticks me in the ass I get a sharp feeling that I forgot to put the cap back 😳...

Disagree! You gots to have one of those thing! Just stick it on the ignition switch and it's out of the way and you can't start your bike till you remove it. You never will forget it or misplace it. Hands free operation. Beside when you put it on your seat, sometime you get gasoline on your seat. Then you sit on the gasoline. They you go home and your wife tells you, "you smell like gasoline" Then your in the doghouse. Better off getting one, to many advantages.

I couldn't read the whole thing. My attention span isn't that long.

Great bunch of mods. I guess I'm not the only one you spends $$$ on stuff. I think I have finally reach the end of the modifcation process. Next step would be a new Triglide and then start all over again!!! Because of the many modes, it peaked my curiosity, and so my whole being was paying attention.

I bought the Jim's Forceflow Fan on 5/2/23 from DK, and had it professionally installed by Blakline Speed Shop (an independent shop that deals exclusively with Harleys).

All is well, BUT I think I would prefer it controlled solely by the switch, and not by the thermostat.

I have found that at high speed (85-90 mph), the fan does not turn on (presumably because the wind is keeping the rocker box below 140 degrees), but the engine is still very hot with the ECM reporting 285-290 degrees. Curiously enough, then when I slow down (50-60 mph), the fan kicks on (presumably because the rocker box is heating up because there is less wind going over it), and then the ECM reported temperature drops to around 265-270 degrees (presumably dropping because the fan turned on).

Go fast, fan turns OFF, and ECM reported temperature goes UP.

Go slow, fan turns ON, and ECM reported temperature goes DOWN.

Very peculiar. I think just having a manual switch is best.

So, is there an easy way to bypass the thermostat?

@windsurfed, in your Youtube video "2020 Harley Davidson Tri Glide Jim’s ForceFlow Fan Install", you mention that is exactly what you did, but you do not say how.

KemiMoto Universal Cup Holder, $24.99

Right now this is the only cup holder I have on the trike.

*******************

Well, the cup-half of this thing fell off today on the road, so I don't have a cup holder any longer.

I'll just use the fender saddle-bags for my cup holder. They're about the right size.

Nevin

I got this strap at some auto parts store near me. Cost pennies. Can't loose it, drop it or sit on it.

If someone sits on a gas cap that is on the seat, that person is not smart enough to pump gas in the first place.

I think the tops of gas pumps should be sloped, so people could not leave the gas cap there.

Better yet, an electronic sensor that won`t allow the engine to start until the cap is in place.
