Kuryakyn #7437 Gold Wing 1800 Handlebar Risers...

Last Saturday Mornin', I installed a set of Kuryakyn # 7437 Adjustable Handlebar Risers on my 2010 Gold Wing Motor Trike IRS. My Frontend Mods already consist of a SUPER BRACE, Progressive Springs, Michelin Pilot Activ Tire, so this was another "enhancement step"......

The Risers consist of Riser Bars, Tapered Shims, Two Different Length Allen Bolts, Full Instructions, and a Picture Chart showing how to mount the parts in different combinations to get various Heights, Lengths, and Widths for Your Bars. I settled for Raised 1.5", Back Toward me 1", and Each Bar moved inward 1/2"...Not very obvious looking at the Trike, but very obvious if You sit on it.....

I used to be reaching slightly downward toward the Bars (Great for 2-wheeler countersteering) and ever so slightly bent over. The New Position has me pushing straight forward on the Bars for even easier steering effort, slightly more bent elbows for arm relaxation, and reach when doing parking lot "full-lock" maneuvers. The 1/2" inward on each bar allows quicker/less movement when completing really tight right-left-right corners...Needless to say, I am EXTREMELY happy with all of my Frontend Mods and results...ThumbUp

The "Downpart" of this job was the required removal of all of the upper cowling, speaker covers, ignition cover, etc. to get to the Risers. Most of this is due to the inability to get to the two small phillips screws that mount this piece of plastic over the upper triple tree.....

This has been left off my Trike, leaving me the ability to get to Fork Springs, Fork Oil, Handlebar Bolts, etc. in the future without the Body Work removal. I'm now looking at machined aluminum parts, which I prefer over plastic anyway, and Kuryakyn provided snap-on caps to cover the Handlebar Allen Bolts. This is what it now looks like without the Plastic Fork Cover.....

i went and bought him a K&N filter so "that" wouldn't have to happen again for a long time.

man do i love my valkyrie.

Hey Skutter, I finally got around to installing the Kuryakyn handlebar risers yesterday evening. After a short ride last night, I think this addition will help alleviate the pain between the shoulder blades on those long rides.
I installed them in the same configuration that you did and I would agree that the bars are back 1.5 to 2" and up about 1/2". The hand and arm placement feels much more comfortable for my short round shape. Total time on the project was a little over an hour. A lot of this time was spent making sure the hoses and wires were reattached properly. If there are any fellow trikers thinking of this addition, the following is a list of tools I used.
14 & 8 MM sockets, 6 MM allen, preferably 3/8 drive socket head, stubby phillips head screwdriver, electrical tape, 3/8 drive torque wrench, patience removing the dash.

just finished my first long ride on the Gldwing - r/t to Atlanta - about 1500 miles. Was wondering if the bars could be pulled back and narrowed a tad.<br />
The setup you described is exactly what i was thinking. <br />

</div>5'7", fairly Long Arms....I've owned some 2-Wheel Gold Wing 1800s and wouldn't want these on a 2-wheel version, but because of the "push-pull" steering involved with a Trike, these seem to place Your arms at a better, straighter position in relation to the Handlebars (not reaching down to them)...no more flexing of the Bars, especially in really tight, Right-Left-Right situations. Without the flex, You also get ever so slightly quicker steering response......<img src="images/smilies/thumbup.gif" border="0" alt="" title="ThumbUp" class="inlineimg" />

I did save time by not taking some items off by using an offset screwdriver to get at the cover screws and I did not detach the cables and wires - just had to pull them out about an inch (plenty of slack on them, however). Install time less than an hour.

Just joined Trike talk a few days ago and has paid me dividens alresady. I also have a 2010 GL1800 Roadsmith conversion. My one complaint has been the bar location. My arms arte almost straight and tire easily. I've been looking for a way to raise them. Thanks eo you I now know what I need. One question, was the wires and break lines long enough or did you need to add to them. Thanks for the info.

I put these on my 2012 air bag/abs brakes..when I went to put the set backs on I couldent install the set backs with out disconnecting the brake and clutch hose clamps,I dident feel good about doing that so I settled for the small risors in the kit...I would really like to use the setback (has any body left the cable clamps disconnected?)

I installed the kit when I did my rake kit on the front end. Significant difference! I am 6'2" and I like the way they are "in" and up. Great addition. And the rake kit is outstanding!

After taking them loose, You should be able to move the hoses around slightly until not in a bind, and re-install the clamps.....ThumbUp

I have moved these hoses and wires and there is just not enough length to reattach with original clamps..maybe the 2012 is different ..kuryakyn suggests that I leave the clamps off..dosent seem to bind but the turn signal cutoff switch located under the info screen has wires that are a little tight...any other suggestions?

Thanks...the only thing i cant get close enough now are the brake lines on the right side and the clutch line on the left side...they have what appears to be rubber sleeves on them but they dont want to move (slide) up the lines to get close enough to the clamps
