oil change clearance

I have been able to replace the filter on my 1800 without raising (jacking up) the front end. Having clearance for a drain pan under the bike for draining the oil is a little more trouble. If you have a shallow enough pan and it is large enough to hold all of the drain oil, you may be able to drain the engine of oil without raising the front end. I have added a belly pan to the trike, so now I do have to jack it up to remove the belly pan and drain the oil.

I pull my trike off of the carport (carport has a 4" drop) and roll the front tire onto a 4x8x16 cement block and then onto a second cement block. When the front tire is on the second block I remove the first block and this leaves the filter and drain plug about 10" off the ground.

:Bug2: I just knock a hole in the side of the oil pan with a chisel--drain the oil--then plug the hole with double bubble bubble gum.
Used to use Chum Gum but it's getting hard to find anymore.

I'm with Lucky in the use of auto ramps for the Shadow. For the 82 Wing I air up the front forks to 21 PSI for enough room to slide a aluminum roasting pan under the drain hole. Yes, they make great drain pans and once I dump the used oil in my oil bucket the pan is put in the recycling bin.

I made a platform using a couple of 2 foot long 2X4's side by side and a piece of 3/4 inch plywood on top. Nailed them together. When I need to change oil I just roll the trike front wheel up on the platform.
