heating rebar

I have been making a lot of rebar yard art type of stuff lately.
I have been using my Oxy/Acc with a cutting tip to heat the rebar.
I know I should be using a rose bud tip and will pick one up soon.

BUT

I was told I could make/buy something that would fit on my BBQ propane tank that would heat the rebar plenty enough and be a lot cheaper.

I have 3 BBQ size Propane tanks so I could use one of them.

I need to be able to heat 1/2" rebar enough to easy bend it.
I say Easy because some times like with the project I am doing now I have to bend rebar sticking up in mid air. Not a lot of leverage

Anyone know how I would set something like this up

I've used a propane hand torch attached to a 20 lb propane tank. Just google for propane hand torch. Home Depot and others carry this type of torch.

Best of luck top you.

but will that get hot enough??

I have a hand held propane torch connected to a small propane tank but it will not get the rebar hot enough.

Is there a special gun/tip used to get more heat?

You can use propane instead of acetylene in your torch set up. It works fine for rosebuds, but for cutting you need a propane cutting tip. Most welding supply stores carry them.

"MAPP" Gas (yellow cylinder) is much hotter.

I used a Perko acetylene torch.. To solder weld and melt gold, It will reach temps over 2000 degrees'F
Simple and uses only one acetylene tank...More than enough to bend rebar...

so there is no oxygen or Propane??

do you think that would heat up enough to bend 1/2 inch rebar?

Can you point me to any good Cheaper setups (yes I am cheap)

Cyberweld sells them Give them a call...
==Smith air/acetylene...#835a The tank is extra you can get it at a welding supply house ....Looks like the one i have' But i bought mine 25/30 years ago.

As an after thought stop by a local welding supply house and they may be able to set you up..

I use my TIG welder to heat sheetmetal and 1/2 inch bar for bending it works very well but you have to have the heat set right and move the tip constantly so it doesn't groove into the part.
