2014 Triglide Clutch Problem

My son was riding my wife's 2014 triglide today and the clutch just quit no pressure as the handle just moves with no resistance. We were finishing a 2 day ride of close to 300 miles the temperatures were in the high 90's during our ride, Once the trike was packed and everything cooled down the clutch works fine now. Trying to figure if the problem was heat related....possibly causing a few bubbles in the clutch fluid.

Also the trike had gotten a check engine light and a temp light along with blowing the fuse for the water pump and fans half way through the trip. being away from my local dealer i checked with a dealer in the town i was visiting and found out that there were problems with the water pumps in the 2014 and 2015 trikes. As luck would have it the pump was not in stock and needs to be ordered the replacement pump is an upgrade from the original and the consensus was to complete the trip and work the issue when home.

Anyone have either of these issues?

When I had my '15, the water pump went out around the 18,000 mile mark. When we got it to the shop we were told that it was fairly common on the 14 and 15's, an upgraded pump was installed and still working well when we traded it this year with around 35,000 miles on it. I have no idea about the clutch Steve.

Yep it was a fairly common problem with the early water pumps on the wet heads..

The brake fluid in the clutch slave cylinder is needed to be flushed for sure every 2 years

The slave cylinder has a higher rate of failure on the older models, it had been rebuilt with a new style piston and seal on most 17-19 models under warranty ( this was a recall by HD) it should have IMO covered all hydraulic clutches

Do a complete bleed on the entire system to start

Before you bleed the clutch, remove as much old fluid from the master cylinder first

Pay attention to any dark residue in the bottom of the master, if there is residue, wipe it out with a lint free cloth before refilling it and bleeding

I used a Q tip to clean the dark crud and there was a-lot on the bottom and then kept on bleeding till the fluid was clear..👍..

Working problems

Figured out the moisture in the clutch fluid (DOT4 brake fluid) may have boiled and made a few bubbles which lead to the clutch fade, combination of high 90's temp and engine running hotter due to coolant pump problem so will be changing fluid and doing a full flush of the system today which should cure that problem.

As of right now the coolant pump and fans both work but going to get the upgraded pump and install it to eliminate any future problems...

Thanks to all the input!!
