A VW transmission question

Hey John....... I suppose the shifter is on the left because the front end used to be a sturdy bike of some sort with a twisty grip on the bars....... Now then progress to modern times with pedals and realize that it can go either way , just depending on how you want it... Hmmm the auto tranny, I have little experience with hookups there. I do not know........... Have a good one Brian...

i've got an automatic also.don't know about any plug or anything but,the shifter on the left may be for the right hand on throttle. oh,by the way ..i'm new to the forum.65-75 or so vw engine,,78 yamaha front.total of 4 or 5 different vehicles in between[so far].howdy.:)

welcome frankentrike I am fairly new to this forum as well.......... you say 65 to 75 or so. I was perplexed when I got my trike because I did not know what it came off of.... it is a HO , straight stick shifter so it is a 1967 air cooled beetle....... produced prior to august 1967..... I was glad to find the stamped numbers on the block to identify it............ I could barely spell volkswagen, now I know more than I ever wanted to know about the engine hahaha anyways. welcome aboard........... Brian

P.S. to the rest of the oil story,,, I took off the head that was leaking a little, allso replaced the cooling tower...... now it leaks from the tubes that I slightly expanded for re-assembly. shucks, anyone know about them tubes with the springs on them so I do not have to take the head off again????????
