Anyone else?

I check this build every day, learn something every day..... super engineering and workmanship, Truly, one of the most detailed machines I have seen. An example of many skills and talents that came together. Thanks for sharing it.

Gas tank did not get the bottom painted black yet.

Came up with a flaw that needed more work.

Now gotta go back to the primer with it.

One day it will be blue. I do not have the paint or the money to buy it with right now. Maybe it will be my Christmas present.

Happy thanksgiving to all.

The gas tank got blocked in and primered again this morning before everyone got up.

15114656943401.jpg

Caught a little shape in the pic with the primer still wet.

Still not done sanding on that tank.

That one last little spot still has not worked out right. It got worked on more and primed again today. Hope this is the last sand and prime.

I did paint the bottom black. So that part is done.

And cleaned and painted the piece together starter black while I had the gun loaded.

Sorted a few things on the front end. Was lacking a few stainless bolts and grease nipples. I have had them a while, so I finally got those swapped.

Put fluid in the front brake and letting it seep down the line.

So just a few misc things done. Not feeling very energetic or focused today.

Well that spot on the tank did finally blend in.

The body work and priming is done!

Now I am waiting on money to buy the paint.

Do not know when that will be. Possibly my Christmas present.

I had a visit today.

vwbug 72501 stopped by as he was traveling by.

Had a good quick visit. Talked some tech. He told me about some plans he has. Of course I pestered him about getting a build thread started up here.

It is gonna be a good one. Some interesting parts and design.

It is starting to look like it is going to be a long while waiting on the money for a super paint.

Or.

Put the industrial blue paint I have at the shop on it. Would be a low voc urethane like the good quality car paint. Just is a solid single stage.

It would get me together and driving and tuning.

Maybe save up and repaint later?

Them later plans usually don't work out though.

Still do not know what I am going to do about paint.

I put a thin coat of white on all of it. Mainly to seal it up so it can wait on other colors. Secondly to see if I could lay down a solid color. Worked out just

so-so is all. It does look like I lack some of that skill.

But anyway it has a urethane heavy duty industrial base coat on it. I could put it together and start riding and tuning.

I have several basic colors of that industrial paint. None of it is sparkely or deep/rich looking. I do have high gloss clear I could put over it though.

Once upon a time ago..... I was thinking of dirt bike red. A throw back to my young days of racing motocross. I also cut up a dirt bike tank to make mine out of, so it has a bit of a dirt bike flavor to it.

So playing with what I could mix out of the industrial paint.....I made a lighter blue that is ok-ish. Then tryed to brighten up a red. Came up with this. Thought it was a bit too orange. But as it dryed it got darker.

Hmmmm maybe so.

So I have put off the paint.....so far.

Trying to wait on the good stuff. Maybe Santa knows about it.....

I did come across this on eBay.

Interesting.

A nearby company.

Half the price of the major brands.

Not much on reviews though.

A lot of hobbyist use it. But they don't have anything to compare to. Most pros say don't buy that cheap stuff, but when asked they have never seen or used it to actually know anything at all about it. I have found a couple pros that have used it (not by choice the owner supplied it) and they say you caint tell any difference in quality to anything else.

Anyone use this Urekem brand?

So since the paint is on hold....

Making a few dress up prices and polishing stainless.

Starter sleeve....a lot like a gen sleeve.

15129294552174.jpg

A little box to cover the ignition switch.

15129294217302.jpg

Polished the shifter stem.

15129294051780.jpg

Made some misc odd hardware to hold some covers for the other side.

Rex, the first metallic 4 stage blue color you showed is nice. I know its pricey but I wish you could wind up with that color.

I hear ya.

Blue is my favorite color. I think most every hot rod I have ever had has ended up painted blue.

I was originally thinking of dirt bike red just to do something different.

But after a while I was back to blue. Was wanting that bright candy like that picture. But I have been researching and trying to learn about paints. It looks like that semi transparent candy is not very durable. It stays on but that thin layer of color fades out quickly. Could only last a year in the sun. As a toy it won't be out in the driveway year round. But that kinda money for that paint....whew.

So I have been looking at other things. I am thinking a 3 layer pearl paint. Probably red. The blue is darker or more solid. The red is strong though.

I have probably sat on it 4hrs total just imagining the right color. I am decided on red right now. It seems to go with the silver shades better.

But anyway....it could be just anything yet.

Waiting on the money to get it.

At one point I just almost put that industrial red on it just so it would be done. I got talked out of doing that though.

I've seen some real nice blues on the newer model Ford trucks and Toyota cars and I know those are durable. I used to love blues, but got away from them, but the last few years I have started liking the new blues a lot. You paint it to suit you, but in my opinion, your trike would look great in blue.

Toyota/Lexus is that usb color I posted. It is on the sports car. They have developed a process that their color holds up better. Replacement paint is not quite there yet. Color matches, durability don't.

And yes in a more mainline color ford and others have some good pearl blues it there.

But then....I have had that.

But then again.....blue is my favorite color.

I have the paint company mailing me a chip sample of that red.

Maybe I should slap that industrial red on a part or two and find out if red is my color now.

I have done so much sanding.....whats one more time?

Hmmmm. That might be a good idea actually. Maybe something small...like the front fender.

It could be that red is my new favorite.....or it might not do it for me.

All those russel fittings and then the pre filters are all red as that is the color they come in.

But what started me back on the red was when I was first making the gas tank.

The dirt bike tank I was cutting up was red. As I was working with it I sat it on there a buncha times and stared at it thinking of shape.

During all this I started liking the red. Thinking it works for me.

You do know I was a motocross racer when young.

That might be why I am liking the dirt bike styled gas tank and the red.

red or blue.....both will look good with all the stainless you got there......really liking the side profile of that tank! definitly some thing different. Isn't there a site that you can change colors on your trike with a program of some sort? Most stuff I like, has a good looking side profile, be it a rifle, car, motorcycle or trike, the color is secondary. I would choose your color using a side profile shot.....what ever make that tank stand out! my .02 Larry

Well it looks like blue is back on the table......again.

I have had blue everything. So if it is going to be blue it has to be some kind of special blue.

That blue I had picked out was way too expensive and not very durable. I have found a very close match in a more durable form and more reasonable price.

Now I have that one blue and 3 reds on the table.

Going to stare at it a while again this eve.
