Anyone running. A120. ?

I have been hearing about a HD 120 r
Any comments?

I built a 120, did a little write up on it http://www.triketalk.com/forum/harley-trikes-6/06-twin-cam-120-build-lots-pictures-10608/. The 120 I built used heads, pistons & cams from Head Quarters.

The 120R which Harley came out with is a great price per HP crate engine, lot of folks running them in 2 wheels and loving it. I know there are trikes out there running it, and I'm sure it would bring a smile to your face. Biggest thing is you need to upgrade the clutch, throttle body, injectors, have a decent exhaust system and a means of tuning it properly.

Wow nice artical. I think I now know what I want from Santa. Although the crate. Motor is more for me because i'm not going to be the one doing it. At $60-65 bucks a hour I want to take full advantage of the factory labor.
Once I get it done I will post trike dyno results.
Thanks again
Joe

Joe looking forward to the results. Also let us know what you put on the motor, exhaust etc. I'm thinking of a 120R when my 103 wears out.

Ran into a guy in Florida that took his 103 out of his brand new trike, sold it on ebay, purchased a new 120R and installed it. He said it ran a looooooooooot better :) He was thinking of installing wheelie bars as the front end comes up pretty easy, especially with his wife on board.

Mine comes up easy without a 120 motor, specialy turning left from a standing start. I have to let off the gas or I'll go straight. The front end comes off the ground, then you can't steer. I coudn't imagaine having 120cu.in. The HD shop told me I might think about getting wheelie bars when I picked it up new.

Your going to like it, the power difference is amazing, I've never tapped everything my 120 has. I can say it will spank the living crap out of a GL1800 Goldwing. I drag raced one a couple months back and had no problem putting 10 bike lengths on him.

The nice thing is when tuned properly they are a great motor to pile some miles on to. There are several guys who have put a considerable amount of miles on the the 120R with no issues. I know one guy who did a Head Quarters 120 pretty close to the same as mine that put 45,000 miles on it and then pulled it down to check for wear, it looked like the day he built it.

My local dealer just got his installed today. WOW. What a sound. The dyno did 125 hp and130 in torque.
They are still playing with it. And trying to figure out the best configuration for the trike.
More to follow. I would have sent a sound bite but its way to load.

Power and torque is about where the majority are falling, some guys are having more head work and bumping the compression then installing a different cam. This has been getting them into the 140's for HP and 150's for torque. Your dealer is running a loud exhaust which is why it is so loud. My 06 Ultra is running a Supertrapp supermeg with 25 disk and a closed end cap, the sound is nice and mellow, you can hear the radio with no problem.

I dont know why they took off the v&h that were on it maybe for testing because he will never be able to hear his stereo with whats on it now.
Another funny thing is when u put the sock on the stack it looses 10 hp.
I still think I will be going that way over the winter. I'm. Just waiting for them to figure out what ever bugs exist.

The only bugs I've read about with the 120R is some had roller problems with the lifters, they were not heat treated properly.

well either way that 120 will be hoot but be careful that thing will scare the crap out of you when you least expect it...The torgue is something I love on the touring bikes..

I remember one time seeing the sky on my EVO 120 when I poped the clutch..I probably could have drove it down the street doing a wheelie..something I would not do again..

Take your time on it your first time out..

Well be careful and have fun...

watching this motor on a two wheeler can be a little scarry.
Bryan the owner of the dealership was out playing last night and the way it acted i dont need all of that but, but, but, yea 3/4 of it just for proper matching of power to weight combination.
they have decided to build 3-4 versions of the 120 and have them on hand for 2 day engine swaps. which would be cool i think because everyone else well you know order wait, wait, wait, backorder, wait wait.
so thats all i have for now..
ONE AMAZING PIECE OF METAL.
M3 approximatly what kind of money do you think you have in your 120?

I believe I have right around $7,000 in it, but then I could have done it cheaper if I wouldn't have used so many new parts. I could have re-used the cam plate and oil pump vs installing the billet one and the updated Harley oil pump, I could have saved a little bit by having my cases bored vs buying new cases.

Its a hoot to ride, pretty much dial a wheelie if you don't watch it. I've yet to turn it totally loose, I have lifted the front tire on the 1 - 2 & 2-3 shift and believe I could have done it on the 3 - 4 shift if I would have been willing to exceed 90 mph which is where I was by the time I went into 3rd. Its one smooth running engine, runs cool. I have to work to get the oil temp to 230 degrees even in 95 degree ambient temps, I've gotten a best of 41 mpg.

I've got a 120 going in my 12 TG....

Just as soon as M3 turns his back for a few minutes and I can out run Smith&Wesson

It would sure make the TG go, I think with a good tune and the right oil cooler it would be a great engine in a trike. I also think the 120R would be a winning combination in a trike, it has pretty good bottom end considering the cams in it.

I don't know much about them but was in Myrtle Beach Harley Davidson the other day and they have a Jim's 120 on the parts counter for $5,8xx. Sure looks good!
