...wondering to each other...

...what it would be like to live...

41-gopro%20cliff%20side.PNG

...in such an isolated and scenic place.

42-gopro%20ocean%20edge.PNG

Of course, the issue of it being so cold, so much of the year, always puts a stop to any real consideration. lol

44-gopro%20so%20pretty.PNG

Ok! Time to head to Twillingate for a ride!

48-on%20the%20boat.PNG

Mary's pretty stoked. We know it's too late to see any icebergs, but the chance are high on seeing some whales!

46-gopro%20mary%20waiting%20for%20boat.PNG

We're loaded up, rain jackets on, waiting for everyone else to board.

Day 8 continued-

We have a ton...

as the Captain...

We did not see any, but we did have a nice time.

Day 8 concluded.

It has been a full day, but we're not done.

We head over to the Wooden Boat Builder Museum...

68-boat%20museum.jpg

...where they still build...

71-making%20boats.jpg

...a couple of boats a year. We talked with the gentleman building this boat. Incredible history in this place, and learned a bit about boat-building too.

70-wooden%20boat.jpg

After a couple of hours here, we head 150 yards back to the motel...

95-back%20at%20hotel.PNG

...get cleaned up and ride over to Annie's Harbour Restaurant...

90-having%20a%20meal.jpg

...where we enjoyed a good meal and view of the Harbour.

91-our%20meal.jpg

Tomorrow we ride to Rocky Harbor!

Kevin

Day 9-

It has become obvious to us that we did not allot enough time to Newfoundland Island.

There is so much to see in this amazing place.

But, today, we are leaving for Rocky Harbour. While there we are going to try and make a run over to Trout River also.

Time to pack up...

Rolling along...

...hopping from island to island...

18-views%20everywhere.jpg

...as we make our way to Lewisporte, and the "mainland" of the island.

19-77%20miles.jpg

One of the rare bridges...

20-bridge.jpg

...connecting islands...

21-crossing.jpg

...most connections between islands are causeways...

22-other%20side.jpg

...or sometimes a ferry.

24-ferry%20sign.jpg

The fun road, the views...

23-moving%20on.jpg

...and the peaceful beauty seem endless.

25-ocean.jpg

More of Day 9 as time allows.

Kevin

Day 9 Continued-

Mary in the Mirror - We're only about 1/4 the way to Rocky Harbour and we run into some construction...

27-what%20are%20they%20doing.jpg

...but it's not long before we're rolling again...

28-straight.jpg

...before we know it, we are in Lewisporte, getting some gas, before heading on toward the Trans Canada Highway.

34-town.jpg

We have seen dozens of signs warning about moose, citing moose accidents, etc. BUT, we have not seen a single moose! lol

41-moose%20sign.jpg

On the Trans Can Hwy now, thoroughly enjoying...

44-gopro%20stunning.png

...the interior of NF, as are other riders.

45-gopro%20more%20riders.png

There are a lot of miles (or I should say KM's) between Lewisporte...

48-gopro%20rolling.png

...and Gros Morne National Park...

49-gopro%20so%20pretty.png

...that we are going to travel thru to get to Rocky Harbour.

53-gopro%20views.png

But there is no shortage of amazing views on Newfoundland Island!

50-gopro%20views.png

More in next post.

Kevin

Day 9 continued-

We're a bit over halfway now...

57-green%20bay.jpg

...I get gas when I can...

61-gas.jpg

...there's a lot of road, a lot of woods, dunno when I'll see gas again.

62-open%20road.jpg

Fellow travelers!

63-more%20riders.jpg

But mostly...

65-nice%20day.jpg

a lot of woods and roadway to ourselves.

64-looking%20back%20clouds.jpg

We're getting close to...

66-more%20water.jpg

Deer Lake...

67-deer%20lake%20sign.jpg

...which is not a long ways from Rocky Harbour!

69-rocky%20harbour%2067.jpg

One last stop for gas before getting into Gros Morne National Park.

73-mary.jpg

More of Day 9 coming as time allows...should be soon!

Kevin

Day 9 Continued-

We're in the park now...

88-moving%20on.jpg

...this is an amazing place...

89-still%20seeing%20water.jpg

...and the harbor comes way inland...

93-snow.jpg

...we're close now...

95-rocky%20harbour%20sign.jpg

...here we are!

96-welcome.jpg

We rode around the harbor a bit...

102-fresh%20seafood.jpg

...before heading to the motel that Mary has reservations at.

98-room.jpg

The place is HUGE!

98b-inside%20room.jpg

Wow, that's a good looking Trike out front. :) Gotta get it unloaded into the room...

98a-trike%20in%20front%20of%20room.jpg

Day 9 continued-

After unpacking, it's time to explore...

...Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse!

It is a bit of a walk...

115-looking%20around.jpg

...and there are trails all around...

118-walking%20trails.jpg

...the top of the hill where the Lighthouse sits.

119-lighthouse.jpg

Ok, we're done here. Time to go eat.

123-selfie.jpg

Conclusion of Day 9-

Ok, time to get back on the TG...

126-going%20to%20load.jpg

...head back down the hill to...

127-leaving%20lighthouse.jpg

...Rocky Harbour...

128-going%20back.jpg

...to find some grub. The Anchor Pub looks good.

130-dinner%20here.jpg

Eating outside seems like a good way to watch the sunset...

131-our%20dinner%20view.jpg

It's a bit chilly, but the food is good...

132-good%20meal.jpg

...as is the view.

125-mary%20and%20sunset.jpg

One last look before...

124-sunset.jpg

...we head back to our room.

133-back%20at%20room.jpg

Tomorrow we are going to try and see Trout River before heading to Port aux Basques, which is where the 5 hour ferry ride will take us back to the mainland day after tomorrow.

Kevin

Day 10-

Today we are going to take a little detour, based on advice from the two Victory riders we met at the Ferry, and ride out to Trout River...then we'll backtrack and get on the road toward Port aux Basques.

All loaded up and ready to roll!

1-leaving%20room.jpg

Gonna post a bunch of...

10-views.jpg

...pics of this morning...

3-on%20the%20road.jpg

...the scenery...

5-looking%20back.jpg

...is stunning...

6-wow.jpg

...the roads are...

8-looking%20back.jpg

...a blast to ride, and Mary is getting some of her cloud pics.

7-snow.jpg

Look closely at the pic. Mary did a great job of catching this bald eagle that flew in front of us. Can't really see it in this photo, but it had a snake or some entrails? hanging down from its' beak.

9-bird%20flying.jpg

We are thoroughly enjoying the ride...

11-curve.jpg

...this morning!

12-more%20curves.jpg

More in next post.

Kevin

Day 10 continued-

This detour over to...

14-moving%20on.jpg

...Trout River is turning out to be...

15-fun.jpg

...just as "advertised". Curving...

16-rolling.jpg

...scenic (yes, that's snow in the distance)...

18-more%20snow.jpg

...and a lot of fun to ride!

25-rolling%20on.jpg

The constant change in terrain...

26-pretty.jpg

...is just one of the things that keeps it interesting...

27-even%20prettier.jpg

...yep, that's the ocean in the distance!

30-ocean.jpg

Getting close to Trout River!

31-trout%20river.jpg

Here's the river, that is headed toward the sea. Small village built around it.

(might be interesting to do a google search for a satellite view of Trout River, Newfoundland)

32-passing%20thru.jpg

More in next post.

Kevin

Day 10 continued-

We headed on down to the end...

33-beach%20area.jpg

...of the land.

35-awesome.jpg

Took a walk down to the water...

39-mary%20water.jpg

...picked up a rock for Lela (DK's accountant wanted a rock from Canada for her collection)...

40-just%20wow.jpg

...we spent about 45 minutes...

36-wow.jpg

...enjoying the tranquility of this little ocean village.

41-nice.jpg

Time to head for Port aux Basques. We have reservations on the ferry that leaves early tomorrow morning.

44-riding.jpg

The ride back...

47-so%20pretty.jpg

is just as stunning...

48-looking%20back.jpg

...and interesting.

49-carrying%20on.jpg

More in next post.

Kevin

Day 10 Continued-

Near the hairpin curve into Bonne Bay.

55-stunning.jpg

We don't know what the gas stations will be like between Bonne Bay and the Port, so we stop for gas at Pike's Service Station. Nice view!

65-town.jpg

Making our way back to the 1, that will take us south...

71-hills.jpg

..actually the 430, that will take us to the 1, that will take us south to Port aux Basques.

76-route%20sign.jpg

Looking like some rain maybe...

81-hill.jpg

...fantastic views and riding...

82-water%20and%20curve.jpg

...yep, got a little rain going on.

83-rain.jpg

At this point we've ridden almost 300 km today. Got another 167 to go...

88-port%20sign.jpg

...and most of it looks like this.

89-pretty.jpg

There is a curve every now and then.

91-road.jpg

More in next post.
