Welcome aboard Don. We have a couple of VW guys on this forum I'm sure one will jump on this shortly.
Thanks but a different trans then I have
spent many years in Grand Junction and still have some family in the area. Miss it dearly when I look around these FLAT LANDS.Welcome to the Gang from Western Colorado.
I believe you are totally right about upgrading to a newer Trans. There is many used Spray coupes in this area and beings the transaxle is out I will investigate the poss. of transplanting one of the trans out of one of them into the Trike. I guess I'll start with axle length. If I remember correctly my trans was from an early bus not sure of year but the farmer I got it from had made a pulley to hook to the input shaft and ran a horz Briggs engine with a belt tension er and looking at the gears I think he used 1st and reverse. I had no idea of condition until I started to ride the Trike never could get reverse but was able to growl 1st gear into place. heck that's half the fun of building a Trike. Thanks for the Samba ad info. Stay tuned for more from the northern flat lands. Don :toilet:I personally would not put any money at all into that model of trans.

I repaired my trike with used parts and works great and then worked on getting it ready to sit out in the weather full time. The 62 Beetle in picture is up for a brake job and I will say it does have a smoother shift. I.m glad I tore into the old trans it taught me a lot and I think with the trike trans it important to remember there is no first gear sync.I personally would not put any money at all into that model of trans.
