Harleys Marketing

If you check Harley history you'll find they've never catered to the customer.:)

Sure they did with the launch of the Evo engine. Willie G was very involved in rider input @ all events he attended and brought these ideas back to his drawing board. He gave then Vaughn Beals lots of ideas to mull with @ board meetings that improved the Evo platform

I had an argument with a software engineer where I worked. I was a field service engineer and was telling the software engineer what the customers were requesting in order to operate their equipment. His reply was that the customer does not know what they want and he was dead serious!

The Ford dealer tried that on me when I was buying an F150 for the shop, salesman 'Thought' he knew what I wanted in a pickup until I rattled off a list of what I wanted and then he said 'You want a fleet truck'. All I want is a basic work truck that can tow a trailer I don't need anything fancy. Companies seem to have a pre-planned notion of what customers want. Yes, if you want a basic truck get one from fleet sale vehicles.

The software engineer needs to put himself in the customer's shoes. Engineers and designers never have to experience the aggravation that the end user does.

Engineers and Designers never communicate with each other...Never had and never will......

Maybe Harley should realize the glory days are over for them and do what's needed to survive. Yeah, what an adventure, support vehicles, spare batterys, generators, blah blah blah. No thanks,I watch Itchy Boots.
