They are NOT necessary but they are very helpful. There are a lot of TRI and Frees out there without them. Those of us that have chosen to install them do so for our own piece of mind about the engine heat when we ride slow. You yourself have to make the decision on if you want them or not. I have them and like them.

Probably not on the water head trike..But that's up to you.

I went the Ward's fan option. Also, installed the Jagg 12row fan assist oil cooler. Like somebody said "for piece of mind".....never saw the north side of 180 riding to Sturgis and back. Checked occasionally with an infrared gun on the oil pan.
