Excellent. Thank you very much! Is it hard to remove the drive shaft?
To all that have a new Green driveshaft head.
Does your green unit fit tight up to the ring on the output shaft?
I was told by dealer that the 1800 & 1500 are the same unit. Are the output splines the same?
I was watching this guy on YouTube https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xOGStGrsPvs and he had a straight shot in. (18:55 minutes in)
I was hoping mine would be that simple!
On mine, remove 4 bolts at rear end, push/pull drive shaft towards front, drop down.
Does the "Green" head unit come down or just the shaft and spring?
If the tires are good and balanced, you will probably not believe how smooth it rides.
Wow what a difference! Put over 500 miles in a couple of days and all is well.
MT very apologetic but no call tag with the replacement unit.
The location of the grease zerk does not line up with hole on side, but I prefer to get under trike for greasing u joints, that way I can check out the under-side for any issues.
... snip .... 2001-05 have a shorter output shaft coming out of the motor so the u-joint is moved more forward. On the 2006+ Wings, the output shaft is longer, thus the u-joint sits further back.
Did not know this. ThanksHopefully you lubed it prior to installing your shaft assembly. Also, the u-joints need to be in time (or phase) with each other. I think your shaft comes already phased. If not, this guy describes it well.
The new "green" driveshaft has a double tooth on the slide, it's now impossible to install it out of phase.
I have an '05 Wing with an '06 MT straight axle with the updated driveshaft and had the same problem. So last time I removed the driveshaft to grease the u-joint and splines, I replaced the front u-joint zerk with a 45 degree one. I made certain the zerk was pointing in the 4:00-5:00 direction when tightened. Now I can easily grease the front u-joint when the right side cover is removed.
Excellent. Thank you very much! Is it hard to remove the drive shaft?
