Prayer Request

I think this is what happened to Rush Limbaugh a number of years ago. He suddenly lost his hearing. I think he ended up having cochlear implants done. Not sure if it was one or both ears. Sudden Hearing Loss is an interesting “read” on the Merck Manual Professional Version website...well, it is for ME...I like to read about “medical” stuff. This website can be quite informative - they even have a veterinarian version for us animal lovers I find very useful.

If the lump comes back benign remember who to thank. God loves you.

t

I have been told that there is no tumor or any real physical lump, even though they all feel it, just some indication of viral infection that is small enough to not show up on labs. The radiologist said it's not the Big C, so yes, I did thank the Lord for that. Of course, I thank Him everyday for all that He provides. The good and the bad. :D No matter how much I think I know what's happening in my life, I'm way behind the curve compared to my Lord.

My dear departed dad used to tell me, "Whenever you feel like God needs a good laugh, tell Him your plans." LOL.

Hmmm .... hope the VA isn't using the Veterinarian site on me by mistake ... might explain some things ...

Another Update

Got a call from Tri Care that within 10 days I will be seeing an ENT. Also, going to see the Audiologist tomorrow to eliminate a change in hearing as the cause, which makes no sense to me ... I've been told my hearing loss is permanent, and could only get worse. So, if I am hearing less, how does that make the headaches worse???

I also will be seeing the eye doc the 14th to see if the eyes could be causing this.

I suggested a proctologist ... cause this is definitely a pain in the b$tt.

New Update

Well ... 2019 went out like a Lion, and 2020 is coming in like a Lion as well.

I got a call from Tri West and I am scheduled for the ENT doc (same guy that did my sinus surgery in 1998) on the 21st. I have an eye doc appointment for the 14th. After all that, I will have another round of blood tests to check for infection again and then an appointment with my primary doc to update me and tell me what if anything they can do. So, that as they say is that.

Back to 2020 coming in as a Lion. Last night at Bible study (I'm always early ... maybe my military training ), the pastor asked if I could help him move a rather large planter onto a stand with casters. We got it onto the stand and were attempting to lock it to the stand with the provided clamps when the paster attempted to "shift it slightly" so the clamp would work as designed. When he attempted to do this, it tipped the stand and the planter fell off it.

The good news, the planter landed on my left foot, specifically the left big toe, keeping the planter from breaking.

The bad news, it broke my left big toe.

At first it was painful, but, I didn't think it was too big a deal. When I got up to leave Bible study, I could only put weight on the heal of the left foot. So I decided to go get it checked out. Spent about an hour and a half after bible study at the er confirming that. Nothing they can do (seems to be the medical mantra for Alan of late) ... go figure. They did give me a roll of tape and taped the big toe to the one next to it.

I called Mom when leaving Bible study and told her I was fine and to go to bed, I'd be home late ... no sense her getting dressed and going to the er. But, I didn't want to worry her by coming home late.

Some positive take aways.

1) The break is not all the way through a bone, just cracked and it "set" it's self. Xray showed it should heal well.

2) Since it's my left foot, driving isn't affected in the Jeep. If we ever get out of the deep freeze here, I'll see about the trike.

3) It is pretty swollen, but, hasn't turned black and blue ... yet.

4) I had done my tank Quarterly maintenance yesterday, so, I took a shower before Bible study ... so feet were pretty clean . I know, too much info.

5) I actually got to use my Medicare Card for the first time since getting it 17 months ago, wonder what my portion will be  ... not sure how er bills are calculated.

So, I'm really ready for the 3rd thing to come and get over this junk. :D

What's that say, if not for bad luck you would have no luck at all. Actually I think you are having plenty of good luck. You are still alive and otherwise active. I try to look on the brighter side if possible.

:D:D:D

Update on the Medical Stuff

Went to the allergy doctor this morning ... nothing there could be causing the "knot" (I'm lovingly calling it PITA ... a well known acronym).

Still need to see the eye doc and the ENT, after those two, back to the VA for a conference about the results and what the next step is, with any luck, that will be just in time for PITA to be gone ... :D

PITA seems to be getting smaller (or maybe me rubbing it is wearing it out ... LOL) and the headaches seem to be subsiding (or I'm getting used to them ... Stephen King once said, "It's amazing what the human body can get used to!") so maybe there is something to the "viral infection" thing and it running its course.

As for the toe, it is looking like a 60's tie dyed T shirt (yes I have a few still ... they don't fit, but, I keep holding out hope) ... some pretty amazing colors ... LOL ... thinking of having the FBG painted to match .... Tapping the broken big one to the one next to it seems to help. My bed can elevate the head, foot and vibrate, don't ask, so I'm elevating it at night. Walking is okay as long as Annabelle the 120# Rotty/Lab mix doesn't step on the toe or I don't stub it.

Guessing I'll be back to my annoying self in a couple of weeks. Well assuming the third shoe doesn't fall. :AGGHH:

I think that's what docs want to happen all the time. The don't think about it and it will go away syndrome.

Like my sudden complete loss of hearing in one ear. What do they call it? Sudden hearing loss syndrome. Really. With all that education and Latin and that's the best they can come up with???

So yes, here's hoping it's all been a big nothing.

Toe is getting better, more like an annoyance now. I can walk, but, I'm hoping not to bang it into anything. :AGGHH:

Okay, about the "knot", got a letter today (go to an ENT doc tomorrow) from the VA. Ir goes into about four pages of what the doc is authorized to do and get paid, basically from wiping my nose to complete surgical repair of whatever he finds.

Never seen the VA authorize anything with prior approval before. Wonder if this is the new Trump Choice thing ... or do they know something I don't

The ENT I'm going to is the same one that finally solved my 2 sinus infection a month issue I had for like 5 years. So I do trust him ... but giving him a blank check is dangerous :D

Anyway, after this appointment tomorrow, the VA is gonna schedule a meeting to discuss all the results of all the tests. I know my primary care doctor will be in the meeting .. not sure who else.

So how am I doing? Last Tuesday evening was rough, the knot seemed to get bigger and the headaches were worse. Wednesday, the knot was gone as were the head aches. Thursday, I was better, just felt run down. Friday I almost felt "normal" or as "normal" as I can be. I'm not sure what's going on, but, I like feeling better.

So that's what I know ... I'll do an update if anything changes. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers.

Final Update? On the right thread this time ...

Went to the ENT today. Told him my sad tale and he listened intently. I had almost no hope he could help.

He said he believed I had Sialoadenitis, basically one of my spit glands is infected. Who knew I had spit glands???

He did a scope (interesting procedure I’ve had done before and don’t wish to do again). He said I definitely had it. He put me on an antibiotic for 18 days and said if I’m still symptomatic, call and he’d schedule surgery to rotor router the feeder tubes to the mouth (my words, not his) that lead to the glands that are now at least better than half clogged. Who knew the little glands could produce about a quart a day, and we have two ... LOL. Apparently the glands don’t care and continue to produce if the tubes are clogged. At some point they get full enough and the pressure gets high enough to “flush” them. He said this accounts for the cyclic nature of my symptoms.

I’m hoping not to have to have more surgery. Although, that would make it an even 24, I think, hard to keep track. After the first dozen it’s like who cares???!

Anyway ... seem to be going down the right path now. I appreciate the prayers and thoughts. If you wouldn’t mind hang in there with me for a bit longer ... Arghhh ... I really don’t want to have surgery again. And I’m a great believer in prayer.!
