Road Star/Champion Exhaust Mod

After about 3 weeks of searching for ways to do this and overthinking it many times, I think I finally came up with the KISS solution. First picture shows the difference in length between the stock Yamaha pipes and the Cobra Slash tips that I have gotten. My initial thoughts were to use the Champion exhaust hanger (pic #2) with the bracket that came with the Cobras. This was a miserable failure. The inboard pipe hit the trailer hitch and both pipes hung entirely too low.
During a visit to my local Home Depot I came up with the idea to use angle iron as my homemade hanger. After a few mock ups I came up with the bracket shown in pic #3 and mounted in pic #4. Pictures 5 & 6 show the Cobras mounted to the bracket.
Next up: making extensions to make up for the difference in length between the 2 sets of pipes.

I like to fab up my own stuff when possible. Most times it's less costly and the end result is so much more rewarding. Made the extensions last nite and did a final mount of the exhaust. Sounds great! Got exactly what I was hoping for in exhaust tone. And can still hear my radio. Should have pics of the final install and hopefully a video or sound bite up this evening.
Since I haven't change anything on the air intake side yet no need to rejet. At least for now,,,,

The extensions started with some 1 1/2"OD exhaust pipe. So maybe a 7 1/2' piece is overkill. Cut 2 sections, one 8" and the other 16". Add a 1 3/8"OD x 1 1/2"ID adapter. You'd think that the pipe would fit over the 1 3/8"OD trike extensions. Not. After a little work with a die grinder, a nice tight slip on fit. A couple of tacks hold the adapters to the pipe. Slid everthing together bolted the pipes to the bracket. Check for leaks,,,none.

Here's a video (crappy cell phone) of it running with Cobras and showing the other additions since I've had it.
Memphis Shades fairing w/ 12" windshield
Grasshopper driver's backrest
Joe Florida LED lighting (partial install)

Remembered this morning that I have a nice little camcorder at home. :gah: So, I may try to do a better video this evening. Also, forgot to add the Shark Audio 250w stereo.
