A couple weeks ago my wife and I had our annual eye exams and ordered new glasses. Last Friday we got a call from the Optomerist office telling up that our glasses were there and we could come by and pick them up. So we go to the office today after lunch and walk up to the receptionist (Guy) and tell him who we were and what we wanted and when he gets up to go get our glasses I get a quick glance at his left hand and on his ring finger there was a white gold engagement ring that had to be at least a 1 caret diamond.

Careful - you may well be incorrectly assuming. Isn't it possible that a woman gave him that ring. Or might it not be an "engagement ring".
