open carry

Okay, I'm sure I'll get flamed, but that's okay. I'm not a proponent of open carry. I believe in concealed carry however. I am law enforcement, and in my off duty hours, I can carry however I choose, and I choose to carry concealed.

I've open carried before, and in plain clothes, it tends to draw a lot of eyes. It draws mine when I see it. Went to the grocery store last night, and some guy had a pistol sticking out of his waist band. I know the guy, and he has kind of a checkered past too. No convictions of any kind, but he was fired from a law enforcement job several years back under some really bad circumstances. How do I know this? He was fired from the same agency I work at now.

I wasn't an employee at the time, but the story of the circumstances of his firing are STILL discussed.

It wasn't pretty. In fact the guy went a lot crazy.

I also saw a guy walking into a local sporting goods store carrying open a few days back. Had his gun in a really nice rig on a decent gun belt. No visible badge, so I assume he was an armed citizen. When I carried open in plain clothes, I always wore a badge on the belt so people could see. Still got a lot of looks anyhow.

I should have prefaced this whole post with my state allows open carry without any type of license. So by law, ANYONE that is not convicted of a felony or domestic assault my carry open. So I guess it's just something I should get used to. I still don't have to like it.

;)

I totally agree with you. Here in PA we can open carry without a license, too.

Don't see much of it though. Most people that carry quickly realize how much attention it brings to open carry and like myself choose to carry concealed with the proper permit of course.

:Agree:
Same here in Virginia.
I think if something were to go down, open carry would be like a sign saying "neutralize me first".

Florida does not allow open carry, only concealed carry, though a bill comes up almost every year to allow open carry. Personally, I wouldn't carry open if they did change the law, for the same reasons already mentioned.

I am for open carry but will NEVER do it. The only reason I wanted open carry was for those uh-oh moments when you accidentally expose your weapon when getting up from a chair or while riding. Up until the open carry law came into effect any exposure of a weapon could be considered a felony. Also the so called "signature" when carrying concealed in now null and void.

Nibblers cause the slippery slope. The more gun rights that are subdued/basically taken away, provides the resources to accomplish the next step. I'm an extremely pro-weapon protector and every give away leads to another take away. If more people open carried it wouldn't create the discomfort that now exists by doing so. Safety is never assured an individual from human frailties and carelessness.

To believe an invasion is impossible is equal to burying your head in the sand. A fully armed populace is a deterrent against aggression and not aggressive behavior. I guess I'm still a boy scout when it comes to being prepared and a realist. Awareness of your surroundings is the greatest skill one can develop. Concealed carry will be the next take away, and about that, I have absolutely no doubt. No your enemy better than they know you, because trouble is always lurking for opportunity.

After the news this AM out of Orlando, expect more aggressive gun grabbing measures coming from the Lame Duck in the White House & his cronies, (aka: Clinton, etc.)....

You bet their ass they will. They want control, complete control. Obama, Hillary , Reid, Pelosi and several more along with George Soros want the U.N. to take over our country and make it a third world country in the New world order. I,m having trouble trying to understand why!

You've answered your own question of why and power can't get enough control to secure its wealth dynasty. Nothing new to the history of the world.
