Okay, I'm sure I'll get flamed, but that's okay. I'm not a proponent of open carry. I believe in concealed carry however. I am law enforcement, and in my off duty hours, I can carry however I choose, and I choose to carry concealed.
I've open carried before, and in plain clothes, it tends to draw a lot of eyes. It draws mine when I see it. Went to the grocery store last night, and some guy had a pistol sticking out of his waist band. I know the guy, and he has kind of a checkered past too. No convictions of any kind, but he was fired from a law enforcement job several years back under some really bad circumstances. How do I know this? He was fired from the same agency I work at now.
I wasn't an employee at the time, but the story of the circumstances of his firing are STILL discussed.
It wasn't pretty. In fact the guy went a lot crazy.
I also saw a guy walking into a local sporting goods store carrying open a few days back. Had his gun in a really nice rig on a decent gun belt. No visible badge, so I assume he was an armed citizen. When I carried open in plain clothes, I always wore a badge on the belt so people could see. Still got a lot of looks anyhow.
I should have prefaced this whole post with my state allows open carry without any type of license. So by law, ANYONE that is not convicted of a felony or domestic assault my carry open. So I guess it's just something I should get used to. I still don't have to like it.
