I dont have the flashing of the speedometer light every three seconds, nor the double flash of the turn signals when I turn the ignition off. I am able to change the pin. I cant find anything in the owners manual about activating the alarm. What am I missing?

Have you left the key fob in the house and gone out and shaken the trike, just to confirm if alarm is working or not?

Just a shot in the dark - does it start? When was the fob battery replaced ?

I don't know when the battery was replaced, if ever from new. I haven't tried starting it since I did in mid December to move it and then put it on the battery tender, but I don't ever remember seeing the flashing light, even before then. Perhaps the dealership had it turned off somehow? Thanks 1dn.

I'm thinking if you never noticed it before that your system maybe de-activated in the ECM. If the it starts and runs without the FOB being close to it that should verify that. If the FOB needs to be within a few feet then I'm not sure what the issue maybe.

+1

I would as a matter of course change the fob battery ... I did mine every year

Jack, Gorilla and Fuzzy: I'm thinkin' it is de-activated. Mine was a rental and HD probably didn't want somebody screwing around with the alarm... As far as the fob/battery, the fob has to be working in order to change the pin, which I had no trouble doing. I'm thinkin' a chat with the dealership is in order. Thanks guys.

Trikes do not come from the factory with an ALARM. They come with a Security Feature where your FOB needs to be a certain distance from the cycle for it to work. The blinking lights mean it is working and looking for it's FOB. This is a constant drain on the battery requiring a "Tender" for long term storage without draining the battery.

YES H-D can easily re-program and disable the Security Feature allowing cycle to start with no FOB. My friend has it disabled on his 2016.

You can add an audible alarm (which I have done on my 2014) and I also have a pager that lets me know the alarm has gone off (it can also be set for a silent alarm on the bike with a pager notification).

Bob :D

Thanks Bob, yes, I was misleading. I am aware that there is no factory alarm. I should have used 'security' instead of 'alarm'. Thanks for pointing that out because some people may be confused. I have been considering the alarm.....

BTW, which pager do you have? I have heard pros and cons to each.

Sadly, the factory security system on the trike stinks in ways I never imagined. Short of attempting to start it w/o the fob in close proximity, it takes one hell of a lot to set it off.

Bob, the security system is not standard "methinks." My 16 does crank without the fob being anywhere near the trike.

Security is standard. The dealership took the Tech II and shut it off electronically. Similar to the way one can shut off the wi-fi feature on a cell phone. Have the dealer turn it back on. They should have done it before you took delivery. Shame on them for not doing so.

Mikey, thanks for this info. In researching via internet I get conflicting info. One site lists the smart system as standard equipment, then lists it under optional equipment. Another dealer site lists the system as optional.:gah: I'll take your word for it and ask my dealer to turn it on for me. Thanks again! :Coffee:

I never go by what is on a dealer web site. I will put money on the security system having been turned off what with the trike having been a rental. Hopefully, the dealer still has the security module for the trike sitting on a shelf. It needs to be installed and told to talk to the trike. It also controls the turn signal/4-way flasher function.
