Just wondering if any of you tri-Glide owners, converted their Tri-Glide to Independent Suspension? If so, Was it worth it? How does it feel?

I would think it would be a good thing. If Harley would ever sell their trikes withe Independent Suspension, they would sell a lot more trikes. I know, I would be in the market for one.

Trust me - we hear you. I wanted a triglide but was concerned about the independent suspension. I did look at the CVO triglide however, my dealer wanted about $60K back in 2021. CVO triglides were hard to come by during that time.

So, instead, I purchased a 2021 Ultra Limited - ride it for about 700 miles and then installed a CSC trike kit. I have to imagine that I have about $50 K in this bike - kit installed was $18K but I added some things like the floorboards.

Looking back - and I agree with you - had the triglide had the independent suspension, I am confident that would have been my route.

I’m sure that the vote would be for a IRS change or at least an option . But mother moco does not listen to its purchasers , or care . The almighty dollar is all that matters. That’s why it’s becoming a clothing store .

I agree….The last time I bought a shirt from a Harley dealer they charged me 35 K’But they threw in a free Triglide with the shirt..

I agree with Cycle7447. W started with our beloved 2018 CVO Limited and had a Roadsmith kit added to it. I would have purchased a new TriGlide if only they came with IRS. Overall going the custom route was more expensive, but we got exactly what we wanted so we are not unhappy with the result.

There was a guy who did this conversion on his Triglide.

I did the IMC conversion on my 2020TG a little over 2 years ago. I posted several photos of the conversion process on here so you should be able to search the site for them. I believe on of the threads was called "Bit the Bullet". The IMC unit had worked well for me and it gives a very comfortable ride whit good cornering action. I also installed the rake kit which helped a lot with the steering.

Converted trikes

Keep in mind your insurance company does not know it is trike now. Be sure to update your insurance. Also, before you make that move, know who you will be taking the trike to for service. That doesn't go far if you travel out of your area. All dealers do not work on conversion trikes. I would suggest staying with a stock three wheel vehicle.

Speaking from experience.

Peace:)

Hey - let me guess - there are shoes in those bags. Good to see you back here. Wife and I are headed back to Milwaukie for the birthday.

OP - seems like you got some great suggestions - which way are you leaning?

Converted to Independent

Last Spring I had the IMC Trike Company IRS installed on my 2021 CVO Triglide. There is no way I can tell you how much better the ride is on my trike. Railroad tracks, potholes, bridge junctions, none are felt anymore. I mean not felt at all. The kit is not cheap. Is it worth it? To a 79 year old with a fused back it is worth every penny.

Tom Without being rude could I ask what it cost you to have someone else do the install? Was it a dealer or an independent? Just trying to total up complete costs. I am like you almost 79 in a few months with a fused back. Freewheeler axle and I aren't the best buddies.

I'm approaching 79 as well. I had a HD with MotorTrike Trog back end. Did not like it at all! I scored this beauty last Fall. 2006 CVO with M/T Gladiator kit. One owner, very low miles, 24,500 Kms (15K miles) As new condition! Couldn't be happier!

I was lucky and had the local Harley Dealership install the IRS. I am too old and infirm to do it myself. It took a week on and off the clock. Paid $2k. I thought that was well worth it. Shop rate is $160. I think it would be difficult without a lift and some help from a friend. I rode some yesterday and today here in northern Utah. And I am soooo happy with my Triglide. I should add I sold my OEM rear end for $2k. So I broke even on the labor.

Does it roll or lean more in turns with the independent conversion?

For 2K I think it was worth it. I don't do low very well anymore. If the ride improved on backroads I would be serious about doing this. After all we can't take it with us.

Thanks for the reply I appreciate it.

Guess I'm the young kid on the block, I'm only 77 :D, I installed the IMC IRS unit my self, it wasn't that bad but I have a trike lift table so that made it easier. I can't even think about doing it without a lift. The IRS unit does have more lean out to it but I was able to fine tune the shocks and got a lot of that out. You also have to change the way you ride to make the lean out go away. I go into turns just like I would on a two wheeler, that is to lean my upper body into the turn and that seems to counter act the lean out.
