Best DLSR for novice

Hey folks,
Anyone know anything about DSLR cameras? I have a great point and shoot, but it sucks for any kind of action/movement picutres. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

SLR allows you to change lenses, so most people buying a DSLR would be planning on getting several lenses.

A lot of people can get what they want, without SLR.
Many people make the mistake of buying more camera than they will ever use.
All of the cameras you would be looking at have 'auto' features, that will do the thinking for you.
The hard part is to get smarter than the camera. That takes practice.

The most important paprt is deciding what is important to you.
Interchangeable lenses?
Price?
Compact?
Video too?
Durability (sand and water?)
There are half a dozen major manufacturers, all would have one or more cameras that would be perfect for you, no matter what you want.

People think the camera takes the pictures. Wrong.
First the photographer.
Next the lens.
Finally the camera.
