this rear tire on front is tuff to get a straight answer about.
I e-mailed Michelin and got this:

Hello Mike,

Thank you for your email. We welcome the opportunity to serve you.

In regards to the email you sent stating:

---------------------------------------------------------------------

hi I want to know if your pilot active 130/80v-18 rear tire will be ok for my 3and half x18 inch front wheel on my trike, or would you recommend something else?..

thank you mike

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Mike, the Michelin Pilot Activ 130/80-17 is a rear tire.

Michelin's position is we do not condone the use of the Pilot Active rear tire mounted in the reverse direction on the front of Trikes.

We appreciate your business and thank you for choosing Michelin.

It is our goal to ensure that your issue has been resolved or your question answered to your satisfaction. If we can assist you further, please respond to this email or call us at 1-800-346-4098 (toll free) between 8:00AM and 5:00PM Eastern Time Monday through Friday or between 8:30AM and 4:30PM Eastern Time on Saturday.

so I don't get it.... I e-mailed back and asked what tire they do recommend on trike but have not head back from them yet . I will post any response..
what I originally asked them was would 130/80x18 tire fit my 3.5 inch wide 18inch rim :xzqxz:
magoo

Thanks Magoo, I have over 150,000 miles on trikes, I ran only one in reverse the rest forward. NONE of the tire reps. in Sturgis recommended or condoned reverse.

I'm the same way....ran all of mine straight up. I rode several Member's Trikes with the Tire reversed, and contemplated mounting my next one that way until I rode one in heavy rain.....the Pilot Activ did not clean the water away much at all, and instead threw most of it forward where I was constantly running through a pool of water.....went back straight up again.....;)

Looks like Michelin even has folks with differing opinions on direction of rotation.

Yep, I think it's a "personal choice" thing. Having had members here let me ride Their Trikes, my personal opinion is I prefer straight up...my main "minor dislikes" reversed were....(A) Tire roared louder...(B) Tire tread sipes didn't clean/shed rain very well.........other than these two traits, I could personally tell no difference.....ThumbUp

Since I have been a member of this site I'll bet this topic has been discussed 25 times. We have beaten this dead horse into the ground. Let's put her in the barn declare a truce. The truth is there are lots of good reasons to mount it either way. Just pick one and go with it. I think in the final analysis it is 6 of one and a half dozen of the other. There probably isn't that much difference either way.

I agree. I have not seen anything new said about this in a long time.

There's a wealth of information on TT that (rather than introducing a new question) can be accessed by using the search field. I don't know if 'using the search field' is marketed much as an immediate way to find answers as opposed to waiting for someone to respond to your question(s)?

:):):):)

Nope nothing to add here.....yes, there is a virtual amount of information on this particular subject here at TRIKE TALK.com ...it can be accessed using the "SEARCH" .....it's basically the same debate using the same quotes and information over and over again....I'm locking this Thread before the "Dead Horse" has to "Re-Die"...Read the Available Information, make Your Tire Decision...You like the results as chosen by You, GREAT...ThumbUp...if not, experiment in the Other Direction...;)...Thanks, skuuter...ThumbUp

I pinned my original Thread on this subject.....ThumbUp
