Riding 2 up review with the HD 110 kit and GMR 577 cams

Went for a 250 mile run on Saturday with my Lady and two other bikes riding 2 up.

About 50-50 on HWY riding and country road riding. Mileage: 31.6 MPG for the trip

Taking off from dead stop: Requires more throttle and cannot just ease the clutch out like I can riding 1 up. Still much better than the 103 with 255's

Very little corner to corner downshifting compared to the old motor

75-80 MPH cruising on the HWY's was not affected by hills and headwinds

Temp's on the way home approaching 100 Deg and had no pinging issues in the In-town, stop light riding

Several hard takeoffs and pulled both 103 Bikes without straining it (both bikes have exhaust and Dyno tune) and never twisted it above 5200 RPM. red line is 6200 RPM but I am waiting to get 1000 miles on the build before maxing it out

The TQ comes in right off Idle and continues to pull really hard.

IMO...this Low end TQ is a result of the following
1. 110 CI
2. 10.25 Compression
3. Tune by Steve @ GMR
4. Heads designed for low speed air velocity as well as Hi-Lift flow. Frank Dragos said with this design, the heads give up a little CFM on the Hi-Lift side but maximize the low speed velocity to help the low end TQ (gain 8-12 #'s TQ on the bottom end and lose 3-5 HP on the top end, I will take that every time with these heavy beast)
5. GMR 577 cam is a great Mid-range cam that makes great low end power if given enough compression, while still carrying the power to 6000 RPM
6. Staying with stock 50 MM Throttle body for the low speed TQ VS 58 MM for high RPM Power

Really loving the way Elvira rides now. 1 up or 2 up she makes me smile

Were those bike riders surprised your trike could pull away from them,Karl? Were they two-up,also?

We were all riding 2 up, they were quite surprised, these are old friends that I had ridden with several times before I got the motor update done. Used to they would kind of leave me behind.

They still both pulled me a little bit right out of the hole, by the end of 3rd gear shifting somewhere just above 5000 RPM I had them both by a couple of Lengths.

When we stopped for water they were singing a little bit different tune with a little more respect for ol Elvira.

No doubt the 2 wheelers would have owned me in fifth and sixth gear, because of weight and aerodynamics, but in 1st thru 4th gear those boys got to look at Elvira's sweet ass

Good to see a hard running Trike! I think I have to go 110 in mine, the TTS100's are just not enough.

IMO...for 2 wheelers the 107 big bore kits do really well. For a heavy trike I think the 110 CI Bolt-in kit is the way to go for a couple of reasons

1. The extra CI's are very helpful in building low end TQ

2. A bored 107 jug is fairly thin and with the extra weight of a trike, much less a trike riding 2 up, loaded with all the extra crap you (she)can haul for trips and such, will generate even more heat. When I was deciding between the 107 Bored jugs and the HD 110 Bolt-in jugs, I worried that weight and the heat generated from pulling that weight would lessen the life of a thinner 107 jug and piston setup.

BTW...#2 was the same argument I used on my Lady when justifying the extra $500.00 for the HD 110 setup, I did not have any scientific evidence to back all this up, but it made common sense to me and it worked on her :D:D:D

Good thing she does not read Forums, the spigot on the 110 kit is known to be wicked thin!

I know that's right :D

The liner in HD new 110 Bolt-on Jugs is a Hi-Strength alloyed steel sleeve.
3 times stronger than the standard HD Cast Iron Sleeve.
Half the thickness, three times the strength. The math works...we will find out if the science does.
I know there are bikes with these kits that are exceeding 10-15K miles now with no issues.
We will know in time if it will hold up long term.
I will probably put 5-7K miles on mine this next year and I ride hard, if this new HD kit has a weakness...I will find it

Another good option would be the S&S 106 kits.

but in my mind, I could not justify the cost for just 3 CI's increase over my 103

of course if you look at it logically...none of this makes sense :laugh::laugh:

I have the TTS 100 cams in a crate HD 110 motor in my 2013 TRI. VERY VERY NICE Super Happy with the combo

NHBAGGER,

I have seen several dyno sheets with the TTS-100 cams in 110 CI CVO motors and they all made serious TQ from idle past 5000 RPM range

With the 110 Bolt-on kit, your TTS-100 cams and your stock heads, I think you would have a TQ monster that would make you smile

What Exhaust are you running?

Fullsac CX pipe with CVO mufflers and 1.75 baffles.
Not sure I have seen any dyno runs that top 120 tq?

From what I remember, the compression with CVO 110 motors with stock heads made somewhere in the Mid 9's. With the 10.2 you would be running I would thing you would make better TQ than them

Your TQ curve would be almost flat and you should be making above 110# TQ from just off idle to past 5000 rpm

That's stump pulling TQ

To really get a feel for a motors power calculate the motors average TQ from 2500 RPM to 5500 RPM, that's a far more important # than Peak TQ

So, now are you going to change your name to 'Fastride'?

Hey Consitter,

Sloride is an old nickname from my much younger days, I used to drive an old Anglia Alcohol Funny Car and it was a "Sloride" compared to the big boys Nitro cars

Fast is relative to what your driving, Elvira runs real good for a HD Trike. but a 103 CI 2 wheeler with just exhaust, cams and tune would blow me away

I saw a saying on the HD forums that puts it in great perspective "I have a very fast Harley Davidson, which is still a very slow motorcycle"

Funny, I do believe that's from my bike's dyno run!

"ALRIGHT" Lostmutt...Did Steve @ GMR do your bike and if so...please give us a first hand accounting of how this bike runs and is it the stump puller we think it is?

Yes he did. I'll try to upload the dyno sheet tonight from my laptop. I had my solo seat on (instead of my 2-up with backrest) and when I rolled the throttle for the first test ride I didn't have a great grip and damn near slid off the back of the seat! LOL It's a lot of fun to ride!
