found this online and just thought these exhaust look cool

When a fluid flows through a pipe, the amount of frictional loss is largely due to the surface area of the pipe...a circle encloses more area for some fixed perimeter than does a square (or any other shape for that matter), so generally for the best flow, you want pipes with a circular cross-section.

In this application, the difference may be so small as to be considered negligible...but that's the simple physics of it. :D
 
I bet they would work pretty good. There was a video on youtube sbc new headers on a dyno. They wanted to see what the horsepower loss was if you dented the header during installation. They started with small dents nothin. Pretty soon they were beatin hell out them. Didn't show a power loss until they were almost pounded closed.

round has the best aspect ratio also square 45's 90's are not good for air flow i would always ure round if i could..
 
With the engine tuned at a set RPM they will work great...Like in a dragster...

For varying RPM's....All the pipes would have to of be equal lengths ...

Thats the reason for Spaghetti headers...If you were to straighten out all the pipes they should all end up the same length......
 
I have been thinking about them lately since my Trike build is moving forward

I would love to do it but would hate to spend the time and money and find out they do not work very well
 
The head loss in a square system would be significantly higher than round. Add the 45's and 90's in a square system and it would be really significant.

Having said that, the head loss could be over come using much larger diameter piping ... been too long since I was in nuclear power for me to remember the calculations, but, they are general heat transfer and fluid flow formula's ... shouldn't be that tough to figure a square system that performs as well as a round.

You'd also have to figure back pressure as well. We all know engines "need" some back pressure to perform well.

Be an interesting project, and if your just overloaded with $$$ .. there is software that would do the work for you ... LOL ... being overloaded with $$$ is not now or has never been my issue. :D

Just had another thought ... you could make a round system, then weld square tubing around it like a heat shield to make it "look" square.
 
google marine headers or manifolds. boats used 4.3's also...maybe something there would strike your eye!
 
I think the square tubes along with the sharp angles would slow down the exhaust gas and cause TOO much reversion. ( hot exhaust would re enter the cylinder) The intake charges would be drastically effected JMO
 
By the pix , it looks like the collector is the same size as the tubes. If so , it should be x2 min. Of the tube size. Doesn’t look like a performance viehical, so it don’t matter . JMO

exactly my thought most factory exhaust is 8 into 1 with short runner cast iron manifolds and the pipe is 1-3/4 or 2" from the manifold all the way to the tail pipe
