Prayer Request

I suspect it's nothing major, but, I've developed a "knot" on/near my jaw hinge on the right side.

Didn't seem to be a big deal, but lately, it's gotten a tad bigger and kind of tender. To be honest with you, when I first noticed it a couple weeks ago, I didn't think too much of it.

Last couple of days, yesterday and this morning specifically, I'm having headache on the right side, and nothing seems to touch it.

This morning mom noticed the "knot" and it has gotten bigger. Maybe the sized of an almond, kind of looks like swelling just under the ear and a tad forward, but, it's kind of hard.

Called the VA this morning and talked to a nurse. She suspects it's an infection in either the jaw joint, a tooth, or maybe the ear canal. I have an appointment for 0945 tomorrow with my doc. Gonna do x-rays before I see her at 8am.

When I asked her why x-rays, she said it could also be a broken bone in the jaw or it could be a tumor. She doesn't think tumor is likely because it came on kind of quickly.

The big "C" scares me a bit, as mom has had breast "C" and Dad died of liver "C". Lots of other folks in my past blessed by it.

So, if you pray, I'd appreciate your prayers. If you don't???? Not sure what you can do to help

Best of luck to you Fuzzy. Not into organized religion myself, but hoping it's God's will to keep you around awhile longer!

Good thing the VA is getting you in fairly quickly. If it's anything serious, they'll get it treated sooner rather than later...

Thanks for the well wishes and prayers ... I'm hoping that it's something small ... but ... if it's big ... I will fight and not change one thing I do. :D I have a little guy that needs me ... oh yea ... mom too! :D

Update

Well, I went to the VA. The nurse had no idea what the knot is. The Doc looked at it and had no idea what it is. She does not believe it’s an infection, but, since I’m due for my annual physical in February, and she doesn’t think it should wait until February, she moved all my annual labs up so that she can eliminate infection. She doesn’t believe it’s a cyst, but, she simply doesn’t know. There was a palatable sense of urgency that I’ve only seen once before at the VA. During that time, a CAT scan had shown “fluid” around my heart. Turned out to be nothing but an inflammation causing fluid to back up from the normal drainage down the throat. Really something minor. Having said that, it was a tad concerning that neither of them have a clue what this is.

We talked about symptoms, specifically sensitivity to light, and the, in my opinion, associated headaches. I was told my best course of action until we figure this out, is to take Tylenol and avoid well lit areas (duh, I told them I’d been getting some relief from laying in a dark room and taking Tylenol). I’m not knocking my Dr., she’s one of the best I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen way more than my share ... LOL ... 23 surgeries to “fix” things, 6 surgeries to “repair” things, and 6 hospital admissions not associated with any of the surgeries that I’ve mentioned. These admissions were for things like pneumonia and even a rare fungus in my lungs that is normally only found in the middle east. Yep, I was blessed with that while in the Persian Gulf. I’ve heard it said, “God will never give me more than He “feels” I can handle”. I just wish sometimes He didn’t think so highly of me ... LOL. This Doc never holds anything back, is always honest and in my opinion, for what that is worth.

Anyway, the plan is that I should get labs done (did that this morning), get a CAT scan of the “knot”, and of course the area around it (waiting on scheduling to get that done), after the Pathologist “reads” that CAT” scan, I’m to see the Doc again as soon as she can see me. Notice the sense of Urgency? It might be that I’m reading way to much into this, but, having dealt with the VA for like close to 30 years, just seems like things are moving quicker than normal.

So that’s all I know.

The "urgency" may only be because you got them stumped. You will remain on our prayer list Alan.

Could be ... and to be honest ... I'm actually more relaxed now than before ... laying on my bed in a darkened room with soft music in the background to placate the headache has given me lots of time to reflect. Bottom line, not much I can do about it until I can. I know, clear as mud. If it is bad, I'll do whatever I need to, if it's minor, I'll deal with that too. Having had some "training" with a shrink ... If I can put my hands on something and affect the out come, I do. If there is nothing I can do, I cut it loose and get on down the road. So for now at least, I'll keep on keeping on.

Dang I hate it when I "date" myself. :D
