Congrats and glad to hear you're doing alright.

Isn't modern medicine great? I'm finally going in for a total hip replacement in 2 weeks (75 years old) - also finally retiring next week so I'll looking forward for a week of freedom to really enjoy retirement.

Everyone tells me a hip replacement is a lot easier then a knee replacement. Hope so. I'm hoping to be riding by the end of April.

Gary I’ve heard the same thing that hip replacement is easier to recover from than knee. In any case best wishes for a successful outcome. And I think you’ll be riding well before the end of April. And congrats 🎉 on your retirement.

Thought I’d give an update on my progress from TKR surgery. It’s been ten days and I’m beginning to feel a bit better. This right knee has really been an SOB as compared to my left which was done in October. Even the doc said it was in much worse shape than the left and it’s given me a lot more pain and discomfort. But thanks to Percocet, PT and good care from my wife I can say I’m right at the corner and ready to make the turn.

I recall from my left knee surgery that three weeks was the ‘magic’ number when things really improved. So thanks to all for your good wishes. See you in Kerrville in April.

I reached my two week anniversary yesterday and it sure seems like it's been two months, lol. But I am starting to make some serious progress. Had a PT session today (I'm doing three per week right now and some at home also). After limbering things up he measured my degree of bend and I got 123 degrees which is up from 107 last week. As for getting it perfectly straight I'm about 2 degrees off flat. Not too bad and I know it'll get better over time. Now it is still tender and doesn't like to be bent or straightened too aggressively but it is much better than it was a week ago. Whoo hoo!

Jerry,

Glad you are getting better. Must be the super support from the wife and the fact that you are very strong and fit.

Keep the progress rolling along and good luck with the PT :D

Sounds like your doing great please don't over do it stay with the program slowly and steady not your first rodeo you know the drill. Congratulations on the progress... Exercise Safely LOL... :good: Fred

Glad to see it is coming along ok, you did say this knee was worse than the other, take your time on rehab and not overdue it, could be a step back if you know what I mean, been there done that, not on a knee though.

All for now Trampas

Had my hip surgery 2 weeks go. Everything is going great. Going to PT next Friday. Using a cane right now. Started driving yesterday. Doc says I'm doing fantastic and recovering fast. I guess working out at the gym pays off. Stopped taking pain meds 3 days after surgery - saving them for the PT. sessions. :) :)

Jerry, Glad to see you're doing great. You should be ready to ride by now, right??

That's great Gary. Glad you're doing so well. I just passed my five week anniversary last Tuesday, so five weeks and three days now and getting much better. I'm back at the gym doing the senior aerobics classes and some weightlifting and exercise machines. Finally starting to feel 'human' again, lol.

Been for a couple short rides but the weather hasn't been too favorable but within the next few weeks I'm sure it and I will improve. Hope you're back in the wind really soon Gary.

Went to the gym for the first time today. Only made it around the walking track 4 times then felt a little sting so I stopped and went over to the resistance machines and did a bunch of upper body exercises - then headed to the sauna. I don't start outpatient therapy until next Friday.

I know what you mean about feeling human again. :)

Good luck

New knee

I'm a pretty close mouthed kind of guy who keeps his personal life . . . well personal. But I've come to know many of you great folks over the past couple years either on the forum or in person a the Texas gathering so here goes! Next Tuesday, January 7th, I'm having a total knee replacement TKR on my right knee. I had a TKR on my left knee just three months ago on October 8th and have had an extraodinarily successful recovery for which I am most thankful.

As my mom would say my knees have not caused me excruciating pain but they have caused discomfort and limited mobility. I'm grateful that my orthopedic surgeon's philosophy is 'if it interferes with your lifestyle let's fix it' and that's exactly what I'm doing.

So I won't be riding my beautiful new 2020 Tahitian Teal TG Ultra for a couple months but it will be in the garage to inspire me . . . and I can go out and rub on the chrome, lol.

So stay safe my friends and I'll be back in the wind before you know it.

Congrats brother. Just had my left replaced in December, right was done last January.

Right is excellent The left is making progress

Best of luck with yours
