Hi guys,

I was wiping down my trike the other day and found this...

8980F853-6254-44A1-BC7C-C9FFE540D978.jpeg

This is the back of my right rear fender on my ‘16 Tri. :xzqxz:. The crack is 5-6 inches long and the paint is chipping off around it. I can’t feel or see anything on the inside of the fender. I have not backed into anything. The hubster swears he didn’t hit it with anything. The only two things we can think of are either a flaw in the paint that is just now showing up, or someone tapped it in a parking lot.

Wow, this is going to be expensive to fix:(. Bummer. Anybody else have a mysterious crack appear on their beloved ride?

Not the best photo to really get a good look at it. If you can't feel anything on the inside I would say it is not a crack, but I have been wrong before, I'm going to say a bad spot in the fender finally got around to show up, I would think a good body shop could fix that and not cost a arm and a leg, take it to the harley dealer and see what they have to say and go from there, just my take, if dealer won't do anything or give you ideas about it, take it to a good body shop for estimate.

All for now Trampas

Could be someone hit it with shopping cart......When i had a trike some people would come awful close to mine when they go between a car and the Trike..

Sorry about the picture. I took many and it was the only one I could see the crack in.

Do have a extended service plan. If you do it's worth asking. If not they can just fix the fender at a quality body shop. Either way it stinks get done soon it's getting warmer even around here. Gotta ask how's your Father doing and your mom. Travel safe Fred/Jeanne

No warranty I’m afraid Fred.

Thanks for asking about my parents. Dad came home from the hospital after the surgery but got an infection and had to go back in for a few days. He’s home now though. He seems weak.

Mom is fine. She’s doing a lot of gardening. She has always loved gardening. We have to remind her not to overdo it :D.

I had one on my 2015. The dealer replaced the lower tour pak under warrantee. They said it was probably caused by the lid stressing it, even though I had an additional tether to hold it.

Crack just at the hinge.

Having said that, I'm with the consensus of a "love tap", cart or car. A decent body man should be able to repair that pretty reasonably.

Thanks RoadDog. I think we’re going to try to fix this one but, if that fails, I may take you up on your kind offer :). It is the right rear fender in vivid black.

If you have 'other than collision' (what used to be called 'comprehensive') coverage on your TG then it might be worth contacting them and having an adjuster look at it. A shopping cart or some other object may have impacted it and caused the crack. If you have that coverage, if it were to be approved and your deductible was not too high this might be the least costly way to repair.

If not there are several Harley dealers who still discount and could offer you a new fender at a discount . . . and no sales tax. I checked on one site I have used http://www.surdyke.com/Search.aspx and their price is $758.90 - almost 18% discount off list price. Also Horny Toad H-D in Texas discounts. Contact Brian there: https://www.hornytoadhd.com/ for pricing. According to the search I did the part number for your fender is 83000056BHY but of course confirm that to be sure.

Good luck and let us all know the outcome.

Thanks everyone

Just wanted to update this thread. So many times threads like this just die away with no conclusion.

I checked into my insurance policy. It turns out my husband got me a stellar policy with vanishing deductible:D. I’ve never used it so I have a zero deductible and Harley is replacing the fender :clapping:. Bear is in the shop right now.

Thanks for all the replies and offers of help.
