For the owners installing mechanical reverse gear, what do you do with stock reverse set up ? Thinking of installing reverse on my 11 tri glide, just wondering what to do with stock parts.

I left mine on, except for the handlebar switch. The cable from it has a plug inside the fairing. My PowerVision lives there now. I did turn off the breaker.

I got my reverse unit from Papa Zook here on the forum.

I just left it on [11 Tri-Glide also].....As it wasn't working i just left it there for ballast :D..

If you remove the reverse motor , don't you have a way for water and dirt to get somewhere they shouldn't be?

If the motor can be removed without problems , I'd like to know as I'm all "the ballast" the trike needs.

Not to worry about water getting in....It already does and thats cause of most of the failures .....When the reverse is in-gauged A sprocket comes out and turns the reverse fly-wheel, All of that is completely exposed to water....As in fully opened to the elements..

You could make a template and cut a piece of tin, make a gasket and bolt it over the hole the motor occupied. That could help debris getting into the sprocket area

Waist of time Jack......The reverse ring gear is bolted to the rear sprocket...As i said before there isn't a hole its out in the open just like the rear sprocket and drive belt ...

The motor is only bolted with two bolts via a flange to the frame..

I've had my electric reverse assist motor in a bin on the shelf in the garage for the last five years. I taped the wire connections, bundled the wiring harness and that was it! Five years with no electric reverse assist motor and not a problem in that area yet.

Mine went out Saturday when I was leaving to drop my Trike off at the Indie shop for a handlebar swap. I didn't think much about it as it was cold. Some things just don't like to work right sometimes when it's cold. I picked it up today and still no reverse and it was warm today. I checked the breaker and it was tripped. Reset it and still no joy. I've looked at the mechanical reverse but don't think I want to spend that much money. I've probably used it a handful of times since I got it in Sept. so I don't think I'll really miss it. I usually push it out of the garage in the mornings to go to work (4am) anyways.

Took it by the dealer on the way home and they tried to blame it on the bar swap so won't cover it under my ESA. I guess I should've waited on the bars and had it fixed first. Oh well.

Brian I think you may need to push a little harder with the dealer on not standing behind the ESP. The changing of the handle bars would have been a very remote cause of the reverse not working. So the fact that you waited should of had no bearing. I think need to make them prove to you that it was the cause.

Motor Trike Reverse

I'm looking at the MT mechanical reverse. I talked to the same shop that did my bars and they quoted $2100 for the kit, install and 3 hole fluid change ($1500 for the kit and $600 for install and fluid/filter change). That doesn't sound too bad does it?

As long thats also including the reverse Cut -Off wire harness.....That harness will shut the engine off immediately with NO damage to the Transmission if you are in Reverse and forget to take it out of reverse and hit first gear.....And sometimes you will forget...I know i have a few times......

Yep. That includes everything in the kit installed.
