Hi, New member looking for help. The time has come - my knees just aren't what they used to be. i'm ready to take the next step to extend my riding days. I am looking for suggestions on trike kits.

What do I need to know? What things should I ask an installer?

Does anyone have installer recommendations in the NorthEast?

Thanks

Welcome!

I live in the Southwest so I can't help you with places to go.

I did about six months of research before deciding which trike kit. A reverse trike appealed the most to me.

Between this board and GL1800riders.com I was able to get enough info to make a decision. GL1800 board also has forums by state so you can maybe find some people close to you so you can check out the trikes is person.

My 2012 is currently getting converted and I hope to have it back in about a month.

Good Luck in your search.

Leola Motor Trike

If you are in Pennsylvania, I would suggest Leola Motor Trike www.leolamotortrike.com . That is where I had mine done. They work on all kinds of bikes. I would suggest getting a rake kit installed. It is like adding power steering to a car. It takes less effort making turns as you will be doing a push and pull in turns. Forget all you learned about leaning in curves as there is no lean on a trike. You will feel it in your shoulders after you trike your bike. You will get use to it after a while. I am very pleased with my Motor Trike Razor kit.

Don't buy a trike kit whose company is no longer in business...some installers might still have a kit "in the back" they never sold, or even an older model of a certain kit of which newer styles of the brand are available. I.E.. for instance ... they might have a 2015 model kit "in the back" for less $$ - wanting to get rid of it - when the company has actually produced newer, improved models.

Repair and parts could be a bear to find if you go with a kit or already-triked bike that is no longer made.

If unsure, ask out here on TrikeTalk.

Some current full conversion kits still actively available that I can think of right off-hand are: California Sidecar, Hannigan, Motor Trike, Roadsmith

Additionally... the installer is basically key - if he does a bad job you will fight it a long time... if he does a good job it will be a pleasure to own... ask around or out here if the installer is recommended or not.

There are also outrigger style kits available but I am not familiar with that style kit.

Good luck.... ASK QUESTIONS!!!... and... Keep us informed!

In addition to which kit you want, be sure to check out what your final price will be. There are many more costs involved besides the price of the kit. Depending upon what you choose, plan on spending $16,000 to $18,000 by the time everything is done. When I was in your position, I found it was more economical to sell my 2 wheel wing and buy a different, newer one with less miles that was already triked. If you do have your bike triked, make sure you use a good qualified installer. A good kit will make a bad trike if it is not properly installed. Good luck..... Jim

Hi Glenn, :welcome:to Trike Talk

You need to ask a lot of questions about the kit and read reviews to be sure

Make sure the company you deal with has good tech support, request an owners manual as well as parts available in the future?

I purchased a 2004 honda gl1800 with the Motor Trike Prowler RT reverse trike kit. It is great and very stable. It was installed by Leola Motor Trike in Pa. They do excellent work and are easy to talk to with any problems you might have. Great people.

IMO- Get a Roadsmith or CSC trike. They are the biggest companies and been around a long time- 40 years for Roadsmith. Test ride each one and see what you like

I have a 2010 wing, and went with a Roadsmith kit............. Very happy I did ..............

JUST DO YOURSELF A GIANT FAVOR............. and get the 5.5% rake kit ... This will MAKE OR BREAK your ending decision, on whether or not you made the right decision..... (It makes your steering feel like power steering/instead of a hard steering
