Air Filter

After looking all over locally, and not finding anything, I found these two on Amazon. I ordered both of them to try.

The filters arrived and I tried both of them. The chrome one fit better, but I installed the red one. I had to modify it slightly by denting the filter so it would fit around one bracket. The original K&N had a hole in it from this bracket. See the pictures. It's a little larger and has an opening in the top also, so it should flow more air. I'm doing a 200 mile breakfast run on Saturday, so I'll see how it fares. Rick

Took it on a 249.3 mile breakfast ride this morning. Used 8.7 gallons, I had a little left in the tank when i got back. Lousy gas mileage, but I was doing 80mph getting close to 4000rpm's going up to 5500 feet. Speed limit is 75mph so I really wasn't speeding. I came back a different way, but a lot of that was at 70mph. I'll have to see what it's like on a normal breakfast ride, between 150 and 200 miles up to 4500 feet at 70mph, where I usually average right at 30mpg. What I didn't hear was the intake sucking noise like with the K&N. I like it and it should keep that area around the filter cleaner without the oil from the K&N. Just for info, I only sprayed a very light coat of oil on the filter. Rick

I'm a newbie (never worked on a Stallion), so, why didn't you go with the chrome one? Also, when you sprayed it, did you spray the outside of it and what kind of oil did you use? Maybe there's a YouTube video :)
