Avon tire wear

Are you getting any vibration or buzzing through the handlebars especially at highway speeds? The tire looks like it may be cupping or scalloping. How many miles on the tire and how old is it?

You may want to consider the Bridgestone Battleax BT46 (Rear) for your next tire. Since it is a rear tire it has more tread than a front. Also the rubber compound in the center is harder than the sides so you get better mileage.

I have run 3 Avons on my Tri-Glide and got 18-20K out of each them.

Yours look like they are still in good shape other than the possible cupping that you may have going on.

Mine did cup some but I never noticed any vibration as others have, I am not as sensitive to those things as others seem to be.

They do have wear bars and if I remember correctly there is an arrow on the sidewall that indicates where they are.

Hope this helps

10k miles no vibration

The tire still looks pretty good. Especially for local riding. If you are considering a long trip down the road you may consider changing it. As stated above look for the wear bars to get a better idea of how much life may be left.

When I was running a motorcycle front tire I used to get upwards of 20,000 miles before they started to cup.

Interesting thing on my Cobra Chrome Trike tire... I have looked and looked and cannot find the wear bars at all. Mine looks very similar to yours. I did a road trip of just over 3000 miles last month and still looks about the same. I checked several grooves close to center using the upside down head of a penny and it still covered just the top of Lincolns head. The profile has taken on a flatter look as happens to trike tires. I know I will definitely be replacing it at the end of this riding season at the latest but it still seems to have some good miles left on it. I will be keeping an eye on it through the summer...

Just wanted to add this is right around 9000 miles now.

So the whole wear bars on these tires had me confused. So I did some research and found what I was looking for. If you look on the right side of the tires near the tread, you will notice snake heads in the pattern. Every other snake head has little "TWI" by it. If you take a flashlight buy the side of the groove above the "TWI", they are there in the groove. They are not traditional wear bars but rather a long rubber block in the groove. Looking at mine, I'm still good to go for a few more miles.

It's a good practice to check your TWI (Tread Wear Indicators) with a reliable tread depth gage. Take several readings around the complete tire as tread depths can vary.

Once the tread depth reaches about 2/32" for the most shallow tread depth reading, I will initiate tire replacement ASAP.

While you are doing tread depth readings, take a look at your tire manufacture date stamp.

I see your date stamp is 1919 indicating it was manufactured the 19th week of 2019.

I will replace my tire, even if there is 2/32" or more good tread remaining, after 5 years from the date of manufacture.

Ride Safe.

I agree with this and the 5 year mark would be before the 2nd week of May 2024. I bought it new sometime around early 2020 on sale through Walmart website for an unbelievable price of $89 but didn't have it mounted until mid 2021. So it has less than 2 years of use right now and was stored out of sunlight until I had it mounted.

It was on clearance but pretty sure someone made a mistake on price. They still honored the price and shipped it. I would love to be able to snag another one at that price but I think that ship has sailed, LOL!

I'm just waiting for the supply to increase a bit more before I order a replacement. I now know I have a little bit of a cushion before I need it. I have seen a few sites that advertise in stock but the price is north of $300. I don't like the tire quite that much. Wingstuff is advertising in stock again but at $235. They are about the only ones with stock at a more "reasonable" price. Hopefully Avon gets their act together and finally starts shipping to retailers so it can be bought at a more affordable price.

Does the Bridgestone BT46 have a smooth ride over bumps etc. How is it compared to the Avon Trike tire?

FRONT TIRE

So after reading here about the BT46 Battle Axe tire I ordered one only to find it is a BIAS tire rather than a Radial. I was thinking that was a downgrade , even though I have seen only good reviews here. But I decided on another radial and by luck I found an Avon Chrome Trike Tire at Lucas Honda in Illinois I think it is. Don't have it yet and pray it comes.
