Seat Bolt

I have had the seat off of my Tri-Glide a number of times and that pesky little bolt that holds the back of the seat down is not easy to get too, especially if the top box is installed. I have dropped the bolt several times onto the frame, and luckily it did not drop down inside the frame somewhere. And to reinstall the bolt I have had to use painters tape wrapped around the screw and the screwdriver to get it back down into the hole.

So I decided there must be a better way. I ordered a Zinc-Plated Brass Male-Female Threaded Hex standoff, with a 1/2" diameter hex that is 1 1/2" long with 1/4"-20 thread from Mcmaster Carr part# 92700A198. They are not cheap at $10.33 each and an additional $6.00 for shipping, but IMO worth it.

I put a 1/4"-20 hex button head with RED Loctite into the stand off, or you could use the stock bolt. But now it is real easy to pull the bolt out once loosened and real easy to finger tighten it back up to reinstall the seat, and it is still below the deck.

Wow u should be able to get that at the local hardware store.
With the trunk lid open its not to bad of a thing to do. I put the screw in the seat hole then put a screw driver on it and lower the seat. No problem so far.

Caveman Style.......

I just cut a quarter size piece of plastic from a water bottle made a X slit in the middle and push it on the bolt bottom of the seat tab, So when i remove the seat the bolt stays with the seat..
But i do like your idea...ThumbUpThumbUp

Do the same using a 12" phillips screwdriver with a magnetized end (that I magnetized myself). Haven't had any problems dropping it so far.

Thats even [As they say in Brooklyn] more better....
And you Don't need no stinken screwdriver.ThumbUp

Having my tour pak leveled and relocated aft 1.5" with the tglidestuff dot com rails makes getting to the seat screw very easy. The simple thumb screw solutions seem like an easy solution. Thanks.

Great idea!

Glad I'm not the only one who has trouble with that damn screw! I like your idea, I'll give it a try. They only thing I found that helps me is I use one of those screwdrivers with the spring clips that hold the screw in place.
Thanks again.

As mentioned earlier. get a 1/4"-20 screw that works with a magnet (the stock one won't) and a screwdriver with a magnetic tip-works great. Simplest solution so far.
