I will be adding a set of Love Jugs to my 2020 TG and I will be using the tank mount for them. While I have the tank off I thought that I would also add the tank lift kit when I reinstall the tank. I know that I don't have to remove the tank to add the kit but I thought that while I'm doing the one addition I might as well do the other. Any thoughts on what the best height lift kit should be used or is it just a matter of personal taste. Also, is it a good idea to add the optional kit that moves the tank back a little. I'm still a firm believer that buying the TG was the cheap part. Now all of the upgrades need to be purchased.
On the Tri Glide you do not need the
Deluxe Option in order to move the tank back. BUT, the Deluxe option does give a few benefits:
It lets more air flow over the engine for cooling
It exposes more of your chrome
It makes it easier to clean
It slightly changes the angle of the tank, sometimes allowing a taller tank lift to be used while maintaining clearance
Most folks do go with a 1.5", but you can easily check your clearance, following the instructions at this
LINK, to see if you have clearance for a 2" lift.
btw, some folks also use the 1" lift. While taste does enter in on deciding the height, so does clearance, and perhaps the biggest is how much do you want to cool the engine and reduce rider buffeting.
I personally use a 1.5" with the Deluxe option, because of my custom bars, a 2" is a bit too high for good clearance. Otherwise I would use the 2" for best cooling, and reduction of buffeting.
As Fred mentioned, consider the
CDW's at the same time. They are very effective.
Below is a new video we just did on Tank Lift Kit that you may find useful.
