The pushrod in my fuel pump is not straight up. It's leaning over to the side so how do I get it straight up again? It's a generator type 4 1/4"..

Sounds like the plastic push rod guide is worn out or broken.

Any type 1 I have ever seen the push rod is held in by the plastic guide.
As in ..... the guide goes in first, then the rod, then the pump. Not counting gaskets.
If you are trying to get the rod in first I suppose you are just lucky that it has not fallen through into the cam gear galley. Not much fun splitting a case just to fetch out a dropped part.

You do have a type 1?
Picture up so we can help you better.

Thanks. I have been trying to put the pushrod in first. The guide goes first. Again thanks a million.

If the plastic guide and block are not broke, then I would have to believe that the fuel pump push rod is bent.

It would really help if you could take some pictures of the push rod laying flat on a surface and pictures of the guide block.

So I am just wondering why use a manual pump?
I just put a block off plate on mine and I use a electric pump.

Is there some advantage of a manual pump I am not seeing?

Apples to Oranges .....
I did that with all my Drag cars in the 60's.. The last one was on my 68 Charger 440 Duel pumper close to the gas tank..
