new owner

i'll join! new owner of a 2016 freewheeler, red, pics to come, but have a question for other freewheelers out there: on a fuel fillup i'm getting about 200 kms to the fill - does that sound right? seems awfully low to me - my husband rides a streetglide and he gets at least twice that - know the trike is heavier and a bigger load but that seems really low - comments and advice??

tks! gpop

freewheeler

I am new to this form(getting ready to buy freewheeler )and interested in learning about how folks customize their free wheelers. I have been riding over 40 yrs. but find myself not as agile and I,m not ready to stop riding but think a freewheeler might be just the thing for my wife & me to keep going I took a tri .glide out for a try {beautiful ride }but found it to be a lot more than I need. I have not had the chance to ride a freewheeler yet, and am wondering how different they handle other than the size dif. thanks for your time &hope to report back with my next ride 3- 4 me :Dorag:

Welcome to Trike Talk

I will say go to your dealer and test ride one and rent one for a day

Practice steering with your upper body, using a push pull on the handle bars

A couple of miles thru some slow corners should give you an idea of how it will steer;)

freewheeler or not

Welcome to the form! I had reservations about trading my Roadking for 17 freewheeler and the test ride didn’t help alleviate ANY of my concerns. BUT 3 months and 4,500 miles later I know that I made the right decision for me!

I do a lot of long solo rides full packed and the ‘security’ of having a third wheel allows me to venture down just about any isolated or heavy traveled road without a second thought. Rain, soft shoulders U-turns, gravel, stop-n-go traffic, 85 + mph interstate, cross winds, ... no problem! I just completed a trip with four 400+ mile days and am ready to go again. One note, it does ride rough on rough roads!

I’ve done a lot of research on mods and have done just about everything including custom wheels and paint but the biggest change to riding comfort was when I installed the front fork wind deflectors found on http://www.jescustomaccents.com. (this assumes you already have a windshield). I don’t necessarily like the looks but it made a huge difference in riding comfort (wind, noise, and handling) if you like cruising above 50 and a must if you’re doing over 70 for an hour or so.

If you like highway pegs I recommend the mustache engine guard (doesn’t look so big on the freewheeler) and pegs with the fold out heel rests. The sundowner seat for roadglides will give your wife a wider rear seat than the sundowner made for freewheelers, go with the mid frame heat deflectors (for your wife). My wife and daughter like the tourrest back rest more than the oversized harley one I bought http://www.tourrest.com/ and I found that the arm rests really holds in my travel bag when I do solo trips.Mustang makes a nicer looking one but their seat is way to hard for me. I also really like my 12 inch mini ape hangers and can't live without my heated grips!

Once again, welcome! Silver bullet

The best advice would be - make sure you test ride before you buy. This is especially important regarding the Freewheeler. And also try out other brands and conversions in order to compare as you will find a striking difference between the Freewheeler and other similar conversions. I only say this as I know people who are die hard Harley owners that have offered their impressions regarding this trike. It would also pay to talk to current conversion owners and Freewheeler owners to get their impressions. It's a large chunk of money your are spending so it's good to do the research.

2017 HD Freewheeler mods

Hi all, this is the Red Dragon with some recent mods to my 2017 Freewheeler. I posted a couple of pics on an early thread under the "new rider from Michigan". Just got my bike back from the dealer and am excited to show some other mods. New Cobra 909's slip on mufflers; Legend Revo 13" shocks and Legend lift kit (1 1/2" lift); Custom Dynamics TrueBeam LED's Headlamp with halo ring to match the Dynamic Ringz Amber/white turn signal clusters; BrightAssLights (BAL St1) LED taillights. (all lighting has "smoked lens") Can't wait to ride it and see how the new shocks feel and steering and LED's look and pipes sound. :clapping: Hope you all like the pics...

2017 HD Freewheeler mods

Wow!! The new Cobra 909's slip-on's really sound great (louder and more throaty) compared to the stock mufflers (which were too quiet) on my 2017 Freewheeler with the M8 motor. Also, the Legend lift-kit and the Legend Revo shocks made the steering unbelievable, what a welcome change. Cornering now is much, much easier than with the stock air-shocks and no lift-kit. Amazing how easy it is now to steer!!! The push & pull is so easy now, I could actually do it with one hand. hahaha The new shocks absorb rough roads really well. Also, impressed with the Custom Dynamics LED's for Headlight/turn signals too... Very bright so folks will see me coming now. And the BAL (brightasslights) taillights are unbelievable. Folks behind me now will see me and know when i'm braking or turning. Glad I decided to go with the smoked lens on all the LED lighting, makes the bike look sharp especially with the new light-tinted Freedom re-curve windshield. Truly enjoy making the bike look like the way I want it to look. I don't have any reservations on changing over to a Trike!!! :LooksGreat:

I bought my Freewheeler a year ago and get a little head shake at low speeds, I tried changing tire pressure, keep an eye on my suspension air pressure and it still does it, anyone experiencing the same problem? I have done a couple changes to make it look the way I wanted it to and most likely do seat and bars as well, View attachment 34830 I added a road Glide fairing to my Freewheeler and love it been riding fix fairing bikes 1984 and really like them, also I bought my trike because I now walk with arm canes and just didn't feel comfortable holding up my Road Glide anymore. I absolutely love my new bike

How did you install the RG fairing?

Is there a kit?
