Turning over engine

I have a 2006 Harley Ultra with a CSC trike kit. I recently installed an S&S cam kit and every video I saw about adjusting the pushrods said to turn the rear wheel while in gear to rotate the engine. When I tried to do this the engine didn't move regardless of the gear. I also tried removed the seat to give me access to the drive pulleys and that didnt make a difference. Can anyone tell me why rotating the rear wheel won't rotate the engine?

Turning the rear wheel on a trike is totaly different than turning the rear wheel on a bike and will not turn the primary belt/engine due to it having an automotive type differential. If you had one tire jacked up just enough to spin and the other tire firmly on the ground you might get it to rotate the engine. I said might because the compression will fight you, so you may have to remove the spark plugs to get any rotation.
