Who's Riding on New Years Day?

Hey M3.. Is that an Escort on your dash?

I stopped using radar detectors when I got busted for speeding by a airplane..and was using a radar detector at the time. Not worth the money IMO..LOL

Well, we did. Ride to lunch (a tradition) and then back home for traditional New Years dinner.

Deb did say it was "Chilly out today."

Man I wish I could ride its been snowing for 3 days now and still coming down..

Around my neck of the woods you take your trikes health in you hands with all the chemicals Ohio dumps on the roads. They lay down brine by the tanker truck load then salt the hell out of it for good measure.

Where back there are they trying to use cheese whey in place of chemicals ? I heard about 10 seconds on the weather news, but I didn't catch where or how it was working out. Seems like it might stink up the place a bit !:cxtv:

msocko3, same here, but not all streets - just a few to experiment on I guess. A mechanic friend of mine in ABATE said he is seeing a lot of brake line corrosion ever since they started using the liquid crap on the roads.

You can tell here if the liquid is being used when you see 4 or 5 parallel lines down the road - not quite as heavily solid as your pictures.

I don't know what's worse the chemicals or the "over abundance" of salt. If there is a slight hint of ice, they dump tons of salt on the roads especially at intersections.

I say they put hot water pipes under all roads.
The plumbers union would love that. LOL

Your neck of the woods sounds almost like Ohio. In my area all they have to do is hear rain or snow in the forecast and their out dumping brine and salt. The brine is some nasty stuff, it loved to damage electrical systems and pit the living crap out of unprotected aluminum. There are times it is so bad we have white dust flying which will make its way into the cabin of your car or truck and leave a coating on things.

Yep, my 1st one lasted about 15 years before it took a crap.

I work on the laws of average, I have a 75% chance the cop will use continuous radar which I'll know about. Then a 10% chance they will use instant on radar, about another 10% chance they will be using lazer and the remaining 5% chance it will be by air. That 5% I can't do anything about, the 10% ones I have odds in my favor they will pick someone else off 1st if I'm in a crowd. All I have to do is not get caught at least once and the detector has paid for it self. This one has paid for it self a few hundred times already.

I'm not a total nut case on the road:), I average 5 - 10 mph over the limit.

with the radar technology changing all the time..I couldnt keep up buying radar dectectors..I will just keep following everyone else on the rode and not be the first one in line to get to the next stop light..:D

msocko3, I usually spray my bike with S100 Corrosion Protectant. It will normally protect from the salt spray - not sure about the liquid. I saw a bunch of cars that had rooster tails behind them of salt - now that's too much salt. :)

I always drive 5 over and never worry about getting a ticket. ThumbUp

I have an Escort 9500, and it picks up everything out there including lasers. No airplanes in use here or in Utah, or Oregon, or Washington. When I go to Utah to visit Mom,, it is 100+ all the way...have never got nailed even once over dozens of trips... gives me at least a 2 mile warning. Worth every $ spent because there are such wide open spaces here with nuttin' to see, let er rip!!.

Last year I had the girls in my insurance agents office in stitches. I have Allstate and they were telling me how I could save some money by putting their little device in my truck which measures speed, acceleration and breaking. I declined and told the girls I cruise at 80 and rarely use the brakes. Coming back from Ky pulling the enclosed trailer with my triked Wing my dad got too see in to the driver side of a lot of cars:D, he saw a lot of folks yacking on the phone and texting, I had the cruise set at 79 - 80 mph. I love driving out west where the speed limit is 75 and you can run 80 - 85 and the LEO's don't blink an eye, can really pile on the miles in short order.

I don't run a radar detector on either my bike or trike, I just stick in the 5 mph over the limit range or run with the flow.

In SE Idaho and N Utah there are long sections where the posted speed limit is now 80...which means everyone is doing 85 to 90...even the semi trucks. I don't do that when on the TG either..5 to 10 over depending on who is in front to get nailed first.

They spray liquid calcium chloride on the roads here, and that crap is nasty on bikes. Gotta wash it off immediately or it will eat at everything,,,paint, chrome, plastic,,,

Same here in SW MO. Won't take the trike or bikes out after an ice/snow storm until we get a good rain a time or two to wash that stuff away. There are too many crevices, nooks and crannies for the nasty stuff to build up in that it is about impossible to clean it all away. Rather not take a chance. As Neil Young sang: Rust Never Sleeps.

Here in Hampton, GA, I was able to go on a 100 mile ride. After the ride, our GWRRA chapter met for some fellowship and Biker's Stew. It was a great day for riding - 53 degrees.

Trent, try S100 Corrosion Protectant on your wheels - and all chrome and metal parts like the frame. Worked great for me for many years. Wash it off in March and you're dome. :)
